1984 honda spree jet help

Post by fatrat440 »

I have my 84 spree that's been slightly modded.
Non Iowa exhaust,unmodded
domed piston from an 86
intake and reeds from and 86
intake has been portmatched for better flow
stock 84 cylinder head
exhaust port silghtly ported for a bit better flow
bigger 2.75 rear tire
bigger main jet

Spree starts and runs good, went from 23mph stock to 29-30 as indicated by the speedo. I am running a bit lean and went to the bigger jet I forget the number righ off hand but it's the bigger of the two offered for the spree. I need to know where I can find bigger jets to run in the stock carb. I do not want to put a bigger carb on this as I would like to retain the stock look as much as possible. Also if anyone knows a good jet size to run?

#68 is the OEM jet for a non-Iowa model. If you have no air leaks or other issues, you can get larger jets from Honda.

Well. checked for air leaks, non detected. sprayed carb cleaner while running around the cylinder base gasket, head gasket, intake, carb to intake, ect... no noticable change in the idle. did a copression check cold 125 psi. Wet compression test is 154 psi. have not done one warmed up. May be a possible air leak at the crank seals, but don't know an easy way to check that.

Your air box lid could be leaking. Make sure the filter element is in good shape and properly oiled.

I have the same setup on my 84 spree minus the domed piston. I have the 68 jet is perfect. If you had leaky crank seals you most likley would not have 125 psi. Unless you make changes to the carb or airbox you shouldn't be lean unless there is a leak.
