So it's okay if that hole is open?

I looked at the throttle grip when I had the plastic off. Can I make the adjustment without removing it again? I checked the service manual but it just gives a free play spec of 2-6 mm and doesn't show how to do it.

The scooter will run fine without that breather tube, BUT I would recommend replacing it as having the open hole there does make it easier for dust/dirt/grit to get into the transmission.

Update 4/14:

I had a chance to finally get it out and ride yesterday after upjetting the carb and knocking out the 2nd air box tab. Unfortunately it still has the exact same top speed of ~35mph.

I bought a long drill bit and plan to drill a couple holes through the baffles in the exhaust.

USPS lost the package from Taz so we are getting that sorted out.

it's never a good idea to just drill holes in your exhaust. the engine needs a certain back pressure for scavaging and stuff. don't think it's so important on a 4 stroke but a 2 stroke will lose power

Your top speed is 35 mph because that's what the stock unrestricted elite is supposed to do. Once you swap out the variator with the performance variator and ramp plate you should see a couple more mph. And then once you change your gears to the 9:1 gears you should see the 45 mph that you were looking for. Changing your tires to some 90/90 will also help you get there. You said you had the parts coming in from taz, did you get that sorted out?

Greetings:

The breather isn't critical. A length of hose keeps it from raining into your gear oil. Just match the outside diameter for a snug fit and it'll be fine. If that's really a stock cable, I wonder if you might have mixed up the oil pump and carb throttle ends? Otherwise, there's an adjustment at the grip that will require you to dismantle the clamp and remove the grip entirely to examine and adjust. I don't recall the stock cable having a second "in-line" adjustment option.

Thanks everyone for the advice and input! The parts from Taz should be here soon so ill post after I get them installed.

One more question: What size aftermarket kick starter will fit the elite? I'm just looking for the lever and didn't want to spend a ton because I may never use it.

I saw these links on eBay:

Update 4/22

My package from Taz arrived on Saturday! Thanks again Taz! I had some time to get the variator/ramp plate installed saturday night and I had a chance to ride it around yesterday. Well the good news is it's now up to 43 mph confirmed via GPS. That's on a flat with no tucking or any of that nonsense and I only had about 1/3 of a mile stretch to get there. It felt like if I had a longer stretch it would get moving even a little faster.

Now I'm debating whether or not I want to put the 9:1 gears in. It's pretty darn quick up to 25mph so I think I could give some of that up to get another 5 or 6 mph. We'll see...

Thanks again for all the help!
