Aftermarket clutch springs info
How do I decode the spring rates, for example 1k, 1.5k, 2k etc. Is it how many thousand rpm more before the clutch will engage than stock? This is one piece of the puzzle I haven't had the pleasure of playing with yet, and I'd like,e to experiment on my spree

Re: Aftermarket clutch springs info
Hey thanks for this info, it all makes sense. So if I want my spree clutch to engage at 3k I need 3k springs then. I want to get the engagement a whole lot higher so its closer to the bottom of the pipe range to help my take off, which is pretty darn good but I think I can get it way better.graphite9 wrote:It not how many RPM "over stock". Its rpm in general. For instance if your oem springs are 1k, and you put in 1k springs, its not going to engage at 2k. The springs fit many bikes, that come with different oem rates. A 1.5k spring will engage at 1.5k.

Re: Aftermarket clutch springs info
Or just buy the jog springs that tell you what RPM they engage in like I did. I want stiffer yet though.

Re: Aftermarket clutch springs info
I ordered some jog springs but I will need stiffer like 3k so heat and bend it will be. I'm sure 2k will be a vast improvement over the stock springs in my 84 spree with 4700 miles on it.

I disagree.graphite9 wrote:It not how many RPM "over stock". Its rpm in general. For instance if your oem springs are 1k, and you put in 1k springs, its not going to engage at 2k. The springs fit many bikes, that come with different oem rates. A 1.5k spring will engage at 1.5k.
My race bike has 4k grab springs.
That means they engage 4000 rpm's higher than stock.

graphite9 wrote:Maybe im wrong. How can they sell a 4k spring to fit several bikes not knowing what the oem spring weight is of each bike. The 4k spring in my delta 2t is the same 4k spring in my dio. I'm sure A dio and minarelli have different OEM spring rates. So 4k over stock wouldn't work. The gy6 also uses the same spring..
Its not an exact science for sure.
Different weight clutch pucks can effect engagement rpm too
2k springs on a medium or heavy clutch will engage at a lower rpm than a light one.
our scooters idle @ about 3k so I know that what ever the rating is, it is an OVER stock rating. Otherwise you could have 2k springs that would be engaged @ idle.
I know that the center spring is rated in % over stock. 10% 20% 30% and so on.

Re: Aftermarket clutch springs info
I just ordered a set of malossi springs from provoscooter.com that are from 3-7000 RPM last night. I had to put my stock gears back in to get my scoot to run right but i'm hoping the high engagement springs will get me closer to the power band to pull those gears.

2t elite idle 1800 ┬▒100 rpmgraphite9 wrote:3k idle? I'm about 1200-1400 idle. I'd figure its twice that of a 4 stroke which is typically 600-850.
4t GET engine 2000 ┬▒100 rpm
The engine rpm will be higher than the clutch at engagement. The belt drive reduction will lower the actual clutch rpm.
