The stock variator, The variator is located behind kickstart housing on the crankshaft has a plate held in place by 3, 7mm screws on the back that limits how high the trans. will shift up to limiting its speed. remove the pulley by using an impact gun and remove this plate from the back of the variator.. reinstall variator, and u will have gained *(5mph.)* If you really want to get the most out of it get a high speed pulley kit for it and change your roller weights to 8.5G you will have alot more take off and about 15mph more top end. Go to www.vtcycles.com and they can help you they have 3 different kits for the SE50. It is that ez.
I Saw the above post and was wondering if it applies to my 95 elite 50 ?
Thanks

Can you go over 25mph? if so, then no, doesnt apply. If it goes 25 or less, then yes, it applies.

It goes 23-25 mph. Starts and runs great other than a little on the slow side. I'm gonna check later to see if there is a restrictor in the exhaust and if there is i'll take care of that. One guy also told me to change the jet from 68 to a 75 but after reading here i take it that it really wouldn't help. Any other advice i would appreciate.
Thanks

Dont bother with the jet.
The exhaust restriction will take care of most speed and power problem. Just removing that issue on mine, boosted my acceleration greatly, as well as took my bike from 25mph, to 34mph. Removing the restrictor plate on the clutch, boosted be from 34 to 36 mph, and then cleaning my carb (second method http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=3 ) boosted me from the 36 to about 40 now.

Ok, did the exhaust...Did the restrictor plate removal...and did the carb.cleaning and now going 35mph. Much better acceleration. Couldn't believe how easy it was to so everything...only took 3 hours to complete everything. I might go ahead and change the weights next. I think i read somewhere about changing the belt to a wider belt? If thats true where should i shop and anyone know what width belt is best?
Thanks

Dont bother with the belt, I find keeping it simple is the best bet. Weights, mabe just replace them if their warn with the factory ones, I know mine need replacing, 3 sides of my weights are "worn flat" and that cant be good, just need to find replacments .
Anyone know how much of a performance improvment I will see with replaced weights? Err, ones that arnt worn flat on 3 sides?

Well i've done some more research on the belt thing and i guess there's no reason to with the stock setup. What weight are the stock roller weights? I can't seem to find that info. I see they sell them in all different weights and also sell complete kits with 8.5g and 9.0g . Is it the heavier the faster acceleration or the lighter?
Thanks
Thanks
lighter revs more, but you have to tune by trial and error as to what works best, too light and the trans will never shift or the pulley will not make the belt ride up in the front.OZZYDUDE wrote:Well i've done some more research on the belt thing and i guess there's no reason to with the stock setup. You want a bike that pulls all the way up.

Thanks Stroka for the input...any idea on what the original roller weights are?
Thanks
