Get a aftermarket variator and some 9to1 or 8.5to1 gears. Did you rejet the carb?
Nothing like getting stroked!

Greetings:

Read Flash III Build Chronicles in Scooter Builds for what's possible with the stock carb and pipe.

A variator (mine's a Polini but Keli should perform very well too...) with 9:1 gears and only stock power was enough for 48-ish. Your BB should push that easily above 50. That ain't 55 however.

To get there I believe you'll need a pipe of some sort. I chose a V8 because it's a nice compromise between the low ceiling of the stock and the gutless low-end I've read about with full-race chamber pipes. Mine was relatively cheap at JiangWayne's a few months ago, but I've noticed the price went up about $50 since I bought mine.

I do not believe a manifold/carb is necessary to achieve 55, but an aftermarket filter and a substantial upjet is necessary. I ended up with around a 101 by the time I resolved some erroneous temp reading confusion. You may find an 88-92 will suffice if you retain the stock airbox, suitably drilled, but I believe the max performance suffers.

That said, if you plan eventually to do a heavy-breather pipe and replace the carb/manifold with something bigger, save time and money by installing 8.4s instead of 9:1s initially. Even without the carb, holding a 55 cruise speed will be easier; once up to speed you can relax the throttle and ride the torque at lower revs.
