Taz has the adapter in stock. What hunting down would be involved in PMing Taz? Also you can not just use the 2 bolt reed cage as an adapter, it will not work. You can use it as a pattern for one side of you adapter.

I was only refering to the 2 bolt because one year of the aeros had it AND I might be mistaken but the adapter Taz has for the spree is 2 bolt and wont work with the 4 bolt af05 unless of course he has 4 bolt adapters too

--just looked at the year, the 85 has the 2 bolt so yea taz is the man :P

If you are worried about over rev you can skip the 9.19 gears and go with 8.99 gears.

Going with taz's setup seems like the way i should go with this build. Im just going to have to wait until i get my taxes to start buying scooter parts again.
I'm not too worried about over-revving, but at the same time i'd like to have room to rev to be safe. The 8.9's sound like a good idea but i've yet to see that ratio available. know of anyone who sells 8.99 secondaries?
Bear, would you happen to know what carb he sells with this setup? bore size? removable pilot? i know i should just pm taz but id rather know exactly what i want/need beforehand. also i believe i've read in a post of yours that the aero 80 reed cage will fit in the af05 case. is this true or am i confused?

My mistake, they are 8.97:1 gears.

Taz's kit comes with a 21mm carb. Yes, the pilot can be changed.

thanks eliteguy. i was thinking 17mm might be to small with the bbk, exhaust, etc, and a 24mm too big for this application. so ~21 was what i was hoping for.
do the 8.97:1 gears come as secondaries or primaries?

Can be made to fit is the operative word, but it will not fit a 1985 Aero with the 2 bolt intake. It can be adapted to the '83 and '84 with a plate and modified to fit the '86 and '87.

good to know. i just finished reading 89eliteR's build thread and it now has me thinking about the head/piston clearance. I know its technically not the same engine but should i be worried about this? My polini kit said nothing about this issue and stated to reuse the old head..

BTW taz's 21mm kit looks super sexy. i cant wait.

I agree that Taz's intake kit is super cool looking.

Still cant find any info on head clearance. If i rotate the engine by hand with the fan, would i hear/feel the piston contact the head if it was happening??

Greetings:

There needs to be some space to account for things like thermal expansion and crankshaft flex, for example. Someone wise once suggested 0.7mm to me.

Use a piece of lead solder. Place it in near the rim of the piston, button up the head, spin the crank by hand - once - then disassemble and measure the thickness of the lead as squished down.

Great info! Now, how would one go about adding .7mm of clearance to the head?? Thicker head gasket?? Machining the head...:/?

@either. Works but I doubt you need to. My kit was a bolt on and go setup. The. 7mm is total, not à additional figure. So. 7mm squish band.
