either use a head gasket or oring the head. pretty much all the high end cylinders use oring style heads(polini,malossi,stage6.....).. some people might get lucky with using rtv only but not all will work. machine work is not all the same on oem stuff so you risk head leak.

I have ran more peds and scoots with out head gaskets than I can remember. I can honestly say I never seen a problem with out one... BUT... I only do it on my own stuff. I am not gonna take the chance of ruining someone else's stuff. I was surprised the first time I ran with out one that it didn't cause any issues but they make head gaskets for a reason.
My high end Malossi race kit only has a o ring and Im not sure if its not more to keep the coolant out of the cylinder.
So run with out one if your feeling lucky or with one if you want to be sure!

I have tried to run a spree with no head gasket.

It has never proven successful.

It always ends up leaking.

If higher compression is your goal, locate a 1984 or 85 head.

The 84 - 85 heads are less cc's.

You must have been using cheap rtv my boys suzuki FA50 powered go kart has rtv in place of the head gasket as well and its holding up fine

Unless the head and cylinder are perfectly flat, RTV is not gonna hold.
