there's a man down the road who just gave me a fiber reed he had laying around it fit right down to the bolts on my reed block its is a dreact bolt no .. so im going to use it and remove the center post .. that will give me 1/4 in more room for the flow of flue... this will help with the hi rpm thing i think

Not mine but one of the alcohol 66 CID 2 strokes I worked on had a second set of carbs mount on the cylinders on the transfer ports, no reeds. He started and ran the engine up to WOT on the standard carbs with reeds, but once at WOT the other set of carbs was activated with a solenoid and that engine screamed up another 4,000 RPM, with no reeds.

Oh and the reeds not closing at WOT (there is not time for them to close because they can not move that fast) was told to me by a guy who designed Mercury Marine's first V6 outboard and Ron has forgotten more about 2 strokes than you or I will ever know.

It will help the top end at the expense of the low end.

Hey Bear I take this comment as a personal insult. To say that I have ZERO knowledge of 2 stroke engine dynamics is a untrue statement. When in fact its YOU my friend that has been mislead and doesnt understand how reeds work. Though I am insulted I will leave the return insults in my mind and not post them in this thread.

In return I would like an apology admitting that you are wrong.

If your reed valves are staying open and not closing at wot or high rpm than you have a condition that is called "reed flutter" when your reed becomes unstable or "flutters" you loose power. This condition allows crankcase pressure to escape out of the crankcase and back up the intake track. When that pressure should be used to force the charge up the transfers. Reed valves CLOSE at wot throttle! and if they dont than they need to be replaced or you need to move to a thicker material.

swimmingfree it ok to open up the reed block just make sure that the reed has at least 1mm of surface area where the reed overlaps all the way around the reed to insure the reed seals when it is closed. Meaning you can open up the reed block all the way around as long as you have that 1mm sealing area.

Hold your breath, for that apology, I like the color blue. Anyone that thinks the reeds close at higher RPM knows zip about 2 stroke engine dynamics.
