lost (pully mod)

no. the clutch works with centrefical force. the faster the engine spins the more the weights push out and engage. the springs determine at what rpm the clutch fully engages. with a stiffer spring rate the engine has to spin faster to push the weights out allowing for a higher take off rpm. kind of like dropping the clutch in a manual.

i am working on a manual clutch system for the spree, which would allow me to leave at an even higher rpm. this would allow me to further increase the ratio in the trans. my goal is to get at least 40 out of the engine.

Let me guess; slower launch and lower top speed? You took too much off. Put a washer between the two, or get a 1" longer belt to help compensate.Kikwear wrote:I need help on understanding the clutch springs. I did the pulley mod and now the bike sucks. Wouldn't tighter springs not allow the clutch to engage as soon?

pulley
My Honda Spree NQ50 does 38mph stock. No pully mods or anything done to it. Its possible to go 40mph on a stock spree for those who dont think it is. Its just got to have a crap load of compression and great spark than ur all set.
What kind of compression are you running, and what type of coil?KillinSpree wrote:My Honda Spree NQ50 does 38mph stock. No pully mods or anything done to it. Are you running a stock belt, or an automotive one? Reason I ask is that the wider auto belt (if 1/2") acts as the same as the "pulley mod" in some respects, by increasing rear ratio.
