supercharger?

I know its nuts, and I've done a few internet searches to confirm as such. But could it be possible to supercharge a 50cc 2 stroke?

you do know that basically is what a tuned expansion chamber does, right?

Yes, I'm aware. But just how much pressure does the expansion chamber develop?

Actually all 2 strokes are "supercharged" because they compress the fuel/air mixture twice. First in the crankcase and then again in the cyclinder. But to answer you question, Yes, if you can find asupercharger small enough.

Greetings:

I believe he's talking about a proper positive-pressure intake system. I'm sure it's possible, but you'd have to design and handcraft every part of the system yourself, then experiment with the limits of the stock crank and cases before self-destruction. And you can only know those limits by destroying a few...

Even if you succeded in this endeavor, you'd likely have a cantankerous, cranky 50 that starts with diffiiculty, runs unreliably, makes a lot of noise and smoke. I for one hope you try it. :)

Yep the 2 stroke expansion chamber can give a 7psi vacuum on the the extraction part of the exhaust stroke and then block the exhaust port with a +7psi. Also there is a 1.5:1 compression in the crankcase as explained in an earlier post. They are simple cheap and lightweight. The top speed for a 50 cc is about 140 mph at Bonneville.

There are a lot of supercharged 2 strokes. The Fairbanks Morse OP Diesel engine can be set up with both a roots type of supercharger for starting and then use a turbo supercharger for sustained running. The intake of the turbo blows into the intake of the Roots. We had two of them in a power plant. They are a 12 cylinder 24 piston design with a displacement of about 245,000cc What would be impressive would be to see such an engine with 12 expansion chambers tuned for their nominal 720 rpm.

Greetings:

Yes, but can you fit one under an NQ50?

Any chance for a pic of one of those 245-liter 12s?

We had them rebuilt by FM 20 years ago. Ours were used in a small power plant owned by a municipality. I was serving as chairman of the board at the time and got a great tour of their factory. I remember that they were building 9 cylinder versions of the OP to be used as auxiliary generators for nuclear subs. They have a short video that shows the scale of some of their engines.

I have seen one in a japan scoot magazine, remember when you suck more air you need to suck more oil, this carb had an oil pump.

These guys make "custom superchargers" for your application, in addition to the superchargers that they make for R/C cars and airplanes (Like 4cc size engines).

SO, yes, I would say you can get ones that are small enough - but...
