Are the pictures in the wiki of thre restricted and derestricted exhausts swaped around? Should the one where the pipe goes from narrow to wider diameter near the box be the restricted one?

The pipe that is the same diameter all the way to muffler is restricted.
The pipe that goes from narrow to wider is not restricted.

Thank you for that. I must have the de-restricted one, but I thought my scooter was restricted as I can only get 55 - 60 Km/h (34 - 37 Mph). (The ramp plate is the de-restricted one too).

On my 1986 Aero50 (the engine is the AF05E if I recall well), french version as I live in France, the pipe is the non restricted one. BUT, there was a washer soldered inside. It restricts the diameter from around 20mm down to 9mm.
I took it out and that made a BIG diff├®rence.
I have a non restricted ramp plate too.

You can see pictures of this in the topic on "TT" (signature below).

Top "cruising" speed is usually 55 with a little face wind.
Otherwise 60.
I can get 65 to 70 km/h with a slight downhill or light backwind. 70 is scarcely seen though.

Your top speed seems ok.
I have not touched the air filter or jetting. I have a #80 main jet.

You don't want to go too fast though on those 10" wheels and with those brakes, PARDON!, things that are called brakes and that can only slow you down until a complete stop...

Those speeds are typical if it's all stock. The restricted pipe and ramp plate keep you right at 25 mph.

It appears my model is un-restricted. I checked yesterday with GPS and I have got 39.2 Mph by GPS as max speed, which is not bad with my weight. Probably just hoping for that bit extra to keep away from the four wheel death machines. Thanks all.

Greetings:

39 is very good for stock Aero, faster than my '87 was stock.
Just a variator and 90/90 tire ... Uhh sorry; tyre will take it over 40 foor sure. Mine went from 37 to 4. Aero drag, NOT weight, limits top speed. Wear Thorpe's castoff swimsuit?

Does anyone have any cheap diy ways to alter the stock muffler?

Take a look at my "Bang for the Buck" thread. I show a pic of the pipe and how I opened it up. A step bit is by far the best method that I found. Made it an easy job.

Not the same motor or pipe. You have a 2001 sa50 not an 87 se50. Your method will not work!

OOOPs sorry I read back and realized that you were working on an unrestricted bike.

I finally decided to spend the money on a Technigas pipe. Haven't tested it yet but hoping for a good result!

Since I was lucky enough to come across an '87 SE50P, I have gleaned this thread for tips...so "Thanks" to evilone, trafficjamz, Wheelieman, and the rest for helping the scooter world along the path to that never-ending pursuit of 2 more miles per hour.
I will start with:
A. 90/90 on the back
B. maybe a Keli vari
C. 7 gram Dr Pulley sliders
D. a pipe--not sure which kind
[recommendations ??]
E. #85 Main jet
F. FULLY OPEN oil pump control with 1 oz. added to tank
Does this look like a good plan of action ? ... :naughty:

Greetings:

Don't knock it. 2 more MPH is fully 5% faster. The pipes, the pipes are calling, but their buzz is fading fast for AF oh-fives. You may still get lucky and score a LeoVince kit #4447 for the Aero/early Elite engine. See SCooter-Center and the other Euro vendors if nobody here has one they're willing to sell. The Elite has the added advantage over the Aero I had of the pipe not knocking the bodywork going over bumps. Of course, the Holy Grail pipe for this engine is the Wild Lion by Malossi. Good luck finding one, though.

85 main if you keep the airbox - which I recommend for your plans. Easy to get 99101-187-0880 number 88 can be had from Honda if you decide on a pod filter.
