Post by alridnayr »

I just bought a 2001 Honda Elite S and was wanting to get about 40mph out of it. It goes 26mph right now. What are the parts/ easiest way to do it. and how much the parts should cost? I would greatly appreciate your help

is it the restricted model sa50p. add a aftermarket variator and remove washer from exhaust.
can find a used variator for around 30.00 here on the forums and the exhaust mod is free.

agree with tw39515 but also change the rollers to like 7g or 7.5gram. but also you will have to open the stock airbox and drill out the second hole and upjet to 85 or 88. that should do it. o and the S is the restricted model. SR is the unrestricted.

the plate is actually on the back of the variator(front pulley). and if i get the chance ill get you that pic. but somewhere on here t here is a pic and which hole to open. and if its still stock and not painted it will say elite s or elite sr on the side of the plastic.

Remove it, it's keeping your rollers from pushing the variator all the way out.

I just de-restricted my 2001 S. Replacing the oil pump was a breeze. Well worth the 10 min it took me to do it...plus not having to premix is great.

Do the following if you want to consistently do 40 - 42mph. All fairly easy to do:

1.) Replace variator with aftermarket variator. (I replaced mine with a prodigy variator)
2.) Replace the rollers with a lighter roller. (I actually left 3 of the 6 stock rollers in there, and replaced 3 with 8.5g rollers)
3.) Replace the main center clutch spring with a 1.5k spring.
4.) Replace the three clutch grabber springs with 2k springs.
5.) Remove plastic tab in 2nd air intake tunnel going into the airbox.
6.) Replace throttle cable with "split end" throttle cable so that your oil can be adjusted in syncro with your throttle. (I bought mine used off of ebay...this was somewhat of a pain to install mainly b/c its so greasy and is tough to wiggle through the clamps holding it)
7.) Replace .68 main jet in Carb with a .85 or .88 jet.
8.) Replace restricted oil pump with SR Oil Pump. (very east to swap).
9.) Remove exhaust and drill out the washer that is welded in the head of the exhaust (where it bolts to the engine).
10.) Add racing pin stripes or flames to give it that extra pony....maybe slap on a "Don't hassle me I'm local" stickers on it.

Greetings:

Nice write-up, W8! Just to clarify, changing the center spring alone will affect the behavior of the variator rollers - RPM will go up with a stiffer spring, even if you don't lighten the variator contents. Therefore it's best to make one change and assess before deciding if the second change is necessary.

<update> removed the plate on the variator (until i get aftermarket) and i went from 26 to 30 and then i put in the top speed spark plug the manual recommended and got another mph so im at 31 mph currently. Went to local honda shop and they only have a 64 and 72 jet i was like really? so i have to order one. i want to get the jet so i can do the pipe jet and airbox at once.

OK I have a 2001 Elite SR .... I hear about people removing a washer and drill out a washer, ... I have a washer LOOSE that i can just take off but i dont really see nothing to DRILL out . ALSO I CUT my AIR box's 2nd TAB but went slower (30mph-- i was at 36-37) so i put paper in the 2nd air hole, then got about 35mph. This is because i need to change the JET to 88 or 85 or 80?

This is the 2001 SR . mainly I have the washer but its on the outside and comes off when i remove Xpipe .

Main jet to 85-88

Your 01 SR = not restricted. You will not find that washer everyone talks about .

I would replace that loose washer you're talking about just to be sure there isn't a leak.

ok ok Just checking. My washer is not LOOSE but i can just pull it off with my hand if i wanted, when i took my Xpipe off today and held it to the side and upside down that washer did not fall off, it will only come off it i take it off. Now i just need to stop being lazy and get my 85 or 88 jet .
