Just bought a 2001 Elite S with only 600 miles on it. Couple of questions. When I take off it is really sluggish. What could be causing this?
And I want to make it go faster. What are peoples suggestions.
I was gonna get a 9:1 gear ratio and a new high speed pulley from VT cycles. Is there a certain pulley I should be asking for? I am also gonna post on the for sale forum on here too. If anyone has suggestions for certain gears or pulleys please let me know.

Also, i know it is restricted. Do i just remove the muffler and bore out the half moon piece of steel in the exhaust?
What about an aftermarket exhaust? Will that increase top speed at all? If so i would love to know what kind i should buy etc.

do you want to keep the stock bore or are you thinking big bore kit.

I want to keep the stock bore. I did check out that page. I am interested in these 3 things for now
1. R1 Exhaust $165 Daywot (or PG Short/Long if you wish..)

ok i have a stock bore 2000 elite s
i derestricted the exhaust, opened the other hole in the air box,upjetted to 85 from 68. changed out the stock vari with a prodigy and 7.5 gram weights. and also put in 2k grab springs in the stock clutch and it runs 45/50 mph runs great. also if you do this either wire the oil pump wide open or add premix.

I talked with Daywot on ebay. Thanks for the heads up guys. He suggested a 9.8 to 1 gear ratio. What are peoples thoughts on this. I was kind of hoping for a 9:1. How much difference is there with take off power and top speed between the two?
And I also read that you guys suggested 7.5 gram weights with the pulley. Daywots pulley has 9gram weights. What is the advantage of having lighter weights with the pulley?
Bottom line is I want to go around 50mph with the fastest take off as possible

my setup s*it and gits. lighter rollers allows the motor to spin higher rpms. and i think it shifts the vari faster. 50 mph is easy with out a motor mod. but i would pm limp1144 on here and get a set of 9:1 gears, and while your there get the performance vari from him. i cant remember where i got my rollers but i ordered malossi and polini, malossi has 7.5 and polini has 7.7 gram. either will be fine.

The Bone Stock engine has enough power to approach 50 MPH (49 and change on my own Flash 3.0) with 9:1 gears. That was achieved turning close to maximal RPM, however, and using 9.8:1 gears would reduce groundspeed by about 8%. Take-off could be a bit better with the shorter gears, but I'd be surprised if it could reach your 50-MPH goal. I therefore recommend the 9:1s for final drive if you remain at 50cc.
It isn't easy to recommend roller weights without knowing the center spring stiffness. Even two examples of the same spring will perform differently if one has more run-time than the other. 9 Grams is close to stock weight, and may produce a lower RPM than is ideal for best power unless the center spring is considerably stiffer than stock. If you go too light with a stiff spring, the engine will over-rev before the variator activates, resulting in a lot of noise but not as much forward propulsion - along with increased engine heat and wear.
Therefore, pick a spring first, and gather a selection of weights between say 6 and 8.5g. Forum Cognisenti recommend very small jumps - about 3-5 grams - in total variator weight. Bigger changes, like from all 8.5s to all 7.5s run the risk of overshooting your ideal engine RPM. You can install 3 of each size - alternating pattern - to make those incremental changes. It's all about testing, make small changes, and testing again.
