Budget Build Carb ?'s

Post by guen84 »

I recently order some more parts for my 2001 elite 50, new exhaust and a bolt on 50mm bbk. My question is the stock carb. Can i jet the stock carb big enough for now till im able to get a new carb? How big can you jet the stock carb? Im already at 100 with a no restriction airfilter. And last of all for when time comes anyone have any suggestions on what size carb to get with out being over kill. like i said in the title this is a budget build. TIMES ARE TOUGH BRO!!! Thanks in advance..

The kit should either have a recommendation for a jet or have the jet included in the kit.

With your 100 main how does the plug look? You know how to do plug checks?

Its breaking in anyways, so your main jet mainly controls your top speed which you should not be testing out until after break in.

Save your money and get a carb that has more adjustments, like pilot jet, different needle choices, etc. Also get a CHT!

Greetings:

DayWOT on eBay and others (JiangWayne.com, methinks...) sell a Daytona jet kit that has machined jets in sizes up to 105. If you purchase a set of indexing bits from Harbor Freight and a digital caliper, you can enlarge your current stock jets to whatever size you wish - the number refers to mm x 100.

Many will say that the size of the hole does not completely predict the jet's performance in the carb, and they would be correct. However it's also fair to say that a jet with a larger hole will act richer than one with a smaller one. You just can't be sure just how much richer.

Anyway, I rolled some as large as 112 and ran them without issues until I made the jump to an Arreche-for-Honda carb with the replaceable pilot. That's one thing you can't easily change with a stock PA as Brad3 suggested. Brad also has stated that the Ruckus jet kits also fit the PA Elite carbs. Correct me if I'm mistaken Mr. Cubed?

The plug looks good, i have done plug chops already. I have the 100 in now with out the 50mm bbk or exhaust even installed. Using the 100 jet with just my current mods. what is a CHT? Im new to building scooters, my budy who is on the forum has been helping me. But we arent sure how big we can go with the stock carb, till i can get a new carb.. thanks

Yes i have already got the bit set. i already rolled the stock jet to 100. So i will try going to 112 with one and try another stepping up to 125, in the area that veedubh20 says they sell. Hopefully that will work till i can get the new carb. Thanks for the help!

Is there a place anyone would recommend getting a CHT gauge from?

Ive only skimmed around online and it seems the standard gauge goes from 140-340 degrees F

Will this be enough to cover the range of a Spree with a 48bbk, 21mm OKO, 2.75-10 tires, taz gears, taz exhaust?
Complete NOOB, sorry dudes

This is just a cht they also have the trail tech vapor which is a tach, cht, speedo, and many other things its on ebay as well. Look into getting the extension harness for the cht cause its to short, I cut and spliced mine with no problems.

Okay thanks. Im just looking for something that is real simple and cheap. What i was thinkin about doing is using the screw-in threaded mirror mounts on the handlebars as mounts for a CHT gauge on the left and a tach on the right

Just for clarification, Daytona is a tuning company that sells a jet kit. Not sure if you were going to scour Daytona Beach for moped parts ;)

As far as CHT gauges go, everyone I know (and myself of course) all use the Westach gauges commonly available all over Hawaii. I've had my eye on the TrailTech digital one, I'd sure like to try it.
