piston ring help!!!

Post by guen84 »

i have a 50mm bbk from jiangwayne. Im not sure what kind it is, but im guessing its a Ruima, because the bag the rings came in says Ruima on it other than that there is no markings of brand or manufacturer on it. The bag came with 3 rings. Im just not sure what the 3rd ring is, if its a oil ring or not and where does it go? I also have 1 more question the rings are labaled R1 & R2 what order do they go on? is 1 from the head or is 1 from the block??? in advance thanks for the help!!!

The hexagonal ring goes under the 2nd ring from the top of the piston. Check the widths of the rings; sometimes the rings are different thicknesses which can tell u which is top and which is bottom.

Hope this helps. J

i checked the sizes and the 2 rings have a 1mm thickness and the hexagonal 1 is also 1mm the gaps in the piston are only 1mm. so does that hexagonal ring go under or inside of the lower ring? Also both rings are identical, except for the opening that catch the pins (on the piston) are a little different. I know on a 4stroke that 3rd ring is a oil ring and its always much thinner and fits under the ring, but that is a way different shape. Sorry for the lack of technical terms.. thanks for the help!

You install the thin spring ring first, in the lower ring groove. Now install the lower ring over it in the lower ring groove. Then install the last ring in the top ring groove. Check to make sure that one of the regular rings does nor have a tapered surface on it (top or bottom) because if you have a tapered ring it goes in the top grove with the taper against the taper in the ring groove.

ok the wire ring goes on the the second ring groove on the piston. put that first. the r1 r2 number means the position it goes and those numbers face upward. so the r2 goes in the 2nd ring groove over that wire hexagon shaped ring. the r1 goes on the top ring groove. make sure those markings are facing upward
Nothing like getting stroked!

ok the spring ring goes in the lower or second groove. got that!!!! the lettering goes up, but i looked at both the rings i dont see a taper on the rings or the piston. So im still not sure what ring goes where. I dont mean to keep asking but i dont want to screw this up. ive takin the time to cut the boost port in the case and clean polish and chamfer the ports. so i really dont want something stupid like putting the rings in the wrong place to screw it up... bad enough im alrady second guessing buying this bbk over a italian kit. but im hoping that plenty of research and taking my time will get me a couple thousand miles out of it or atleast the 2011 riding season.... So my final question is does any 1 know where r1 and r2 go. id ask the place i bought it from but they are no help cause its going on a elite, not a dio.. HAHA sounds like a cheap way out to me!!!
