1985 aero 50 mods

hey all im new to the forum and am having trouble finding aftermarket parts for the aero and need some help learning what parts from the spree and elite will fit my aero, not sure if i have the 84 or 85 aero if it matters where is the vin# located?

look on ebay search nb50 or just go right to daywots ebay store......

You need to find out if it is an '84 or an '85 as they are different. The '84 has 4 bolts holding on the intake to the block and the '85 has only 2 bolts. The 4 bolt lends itself to several good intake upgrades will the 2 bolt is a PIA. OR you can post your VIN numbers here.

There are BBK available for the Aero 50 as well as exhausts.

is daywot his ebay name, and i still dunno where the vin# is im starting to suspect it doesnt have one, on the tank it say model NB50M and i think it has the newer instrument panel, and it has an emissions sticker says 1985, the guy wrote the number on the bil of sale but i dont know where i put it.

i found this in daywots store http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VARIATOR ... 771wt_1031 looks pretty good but does it help with hills i tried the aero on some of the steepest hills in town and it seemed like as long as i stayed in the power band i could do about 25mph according to speedo but if i came out of the power band i slowly dropped to about 15mph

does it have a kick start or not? that will be the one of the biggest determining factors on if its an 85. you have a few options for bore kits (polini, malossi, CMR), as well as a couple of gear selections( SE50 10:1, malossi 7.8:1), but there is also the option of doing a little work on the case work and running dio gears (d*** near infinite selection) .
you also have a few options for variators. and vari that can run in an AF16 dio will also run in the aero, as well as the ruckus vari will fit with a little case work as well.
if its decent condition, please dont part it out, these aeros are starting to get rare.

The VIN number is on the frame in two places. Download the Service Manual and it will show you where to look. OH and normally the 1985 is a NB50M but tanks get changed.

ok read the manual and found the vin# guess i have the worthless 1985 model oh well i think id like to keep the stock bore tell i need a rebuild it but id like to either get that variator, different gears, or an exhaust ya know just something that gives it more power without giving up speed/topend cause hills are going to be a big part of my commute ... really id like this thing to pick the front wheel up and still be able to do 40 without being at the redline, oh ya will a spree exhaust fit on the aero im thinking of buying a spree exhaust off craigslist and either gutting it or welding an expansion chamber to it

hey im trying to change the tranny fluid and i cant seem to find any screws that drain the oil that or my tranny is completely dry

Did you download the Service Manual? These questions are all answered in the manual and you should not be working on this thing without having read the manual.

ya i just read the 1985 and it was vague, the 1984 was better and yikes it was completely dry, do you think i hurt it i took it for like a 3 or 4 mile drive today

I think you might be mistaken a little... The 85, 86, 87 are all good to have. They use the same motor as the 87 SE50 Elite: AF05E

Lots of parts available and you can make them pretty quick. Big bore kit, change some final drive gears, change the variator and rear pulley, then get a larger carb to match. I suggest getting a good 72cc performance pipe and have it cut/welded to fit this bike. The few pipes specific to the bike I dont car for much, but thats just me... These bikes use CVT so a pipe that is peaky is not so bad. Just be sure the pipe you use makes power in the rpm band the cylinder can support. You can find details about this type of stuff in the "performance technical" section on this forum.

Anyway, I have an 85 and 86 Aero as well as a 87 SE50 Elite and all the motors can be upgraded. Take your time and you will end with a fun, peppy, reliable scooter.

I have 1 '85 scooter and two spare '85 motors and you are wrong as the '85 has the same style intake as the Spree and the SB50, not the same as the motors that will easily accept the CT manifold.

dont worry there isnt anything worthless about the 85, mine on a stock bore with a keli vari and SEF ramp plate was a good 45, with a malossi wild lion pipe was pushing past 50 pretty easy.
first things first, read through the WIKI and give your carb a good cleaning, check your belt for spec, check your rollers in the vari for round and you may want to throw your exhaust in a camp fire or bbq grill for a while for a good cleaning too.
most people dont like the 85 for its lack of a kick start (easily remedied), and the 2 bolt intake. other than that its still a good machine.
the spree exhaust wont fit, if you are going to modify any exhaust, it would probably be smarter to modify a dio exhaust (thats what i did).

No one, especially me said the '85 was worthless. Besides that over carburating is the biggest tuning issue I've seen on this forum and I will bet you can do well over 45 mph with the stock intake and carb.
