to upgrade? or not

Post by dun rite »

Ok have around 200 miles on the 50mm bbk. (see signature) Have ordered 16X42 (9:1) gears, ddx performance variator & sef ramp plate.
The question is, can I put these in now without any ill effects to the motor that's still running the stock carb (100 main jet) and stock air box with extra holes & the stock exhaust.

or should I wait until I get the pg long exhaust, and larger carburetor???

according to tazland's instruction sheet provided with bbk there's a 400 mile break in before wot. I don't want to tax the engine to much, Most of my rides are 1 1/2 miles up hill then 1 1/2 miles downhill each way. not the steepest grades usually hit 295 deg's going up both ways at 1/2 throttle.

Another question, about oko carburetors. I've noticed that most people get the 24mm, Would the 21 mm work as well? Don't want to over carburate (spelling?) but also don't want to under do it either. Majority of roads are 35-45 mph. Which would be the choice do you think?

keep that 24mm carb since your at 80cc now. once you put that pg long on, your going to need the intake flow to keep up. as for putting the gears and variator on. just wait that extra 200 miles. it will come fast.

Thanks Bakaracer, Will plan on getting the 24mm oko. I suppose i can wait before putting on the new goodies.

When the time comes that I order carb and exhaust what size jet kits should I get with them??

Thanks again

if your going with a 24mm carb , you will need 115-130 main jet kit and 42-58 pilot kit. just in case you decide to put on a 28mm carb for better breathing for topend power.

would the 28mm be a better choice? If so would i get the same jet kits?

The reason for the pg long exhaust is as I understand it, is not as loud as others. Is this correct??

If it's not much louder than others. what would be a better choice????

Thanks again for all your help

Greetings:

Bigger carbs require bigger jets as a rule. Baka-san's suggestions should be in the ballpark.

Consider the 26 OKO, perhaps a bit easier to tune than a 28. Displacement x RPM determines carb size need.

The PG is pretty loud after a few hundred miles and it needs higher revs than some to produce best power. It starts to sing at 8500 RPM but a bit soft under 7500.

the pg typhoon is quieter. but the pg long will let your setup breath better and give it better power and higher rpm limit than the pg typhoon. its a trade off. sound over power.

Hmmmmmm 26mm,, right in the middle of the 24 vs 28. nice compromise.

So what jetting kits would I use with the 26??????

shucks I was after quiet with power, guess I can't have everything. suppose there is no perfect last forever muffler out there. Doesn't matter much to me, seeing's how I'm super hard of hearing. Just thinking of the wife, she has super power type hearing.

So of all the choices out there what's a good all around exhaust to use??

Greetings:

My 26mm sports (I think...) a 48/125 currently. It's rich for my 72cc but I accept a bit less power for safely cool operating temps.
As the summer heats up I may need to deop a size on each or risk fouling plugs.

Jetting needs vary with displacement, RPM, filter and pipe. Even oil ratio and ambient temp and humidity will affect how it runs, sometimes a lot.

Thanks wheelman. While were on the carb subject, Since they have to have an air filter and I really like the stock look vs the uni. Have you any experience or thoughts on this one

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... MEWAX%3AIT

not to much info on the site. suppose I should check with daywot.

thanks again

Greetings:

Yeah I thought about getting that myself but it's priced above Wheel-reach for now.

I thought it'd quiet things down a bit, but since the PG Long is so loud there may be little point.
The UNI works well enough.

outrageously priced it is, But I'm having to save for everything anyways. just takes longer.

the pg is really loud? or just gets that way. Is there a quiet exhaust? suppose if there was it wouldn't work to well (sigh) ah what the heck it's country living anyways nobody should care

yeah out where you live is wide open country until you get into town which is only maybe 1/2 mile long strip. but there is 1 section that has a nice s turn section going out to south point.
