How do I make my 85 spree do this:

I just aquired a 85' red spree that is in great shape- 3k miles, really well maintained, paint and panels look like new (except for crack by headlight), and it runs well. It goes 28-30mph on GPS and is a fun lil guy to drive around. It cruises nicely around 23-25 mph.

I would like to be able to hit 35mph, and cruise nicely at 30-32mpg so traffic doesnt 100% hate me. What should I purchase to make this happen? Or should I just enjoy what it does now and take it for that and that alone.

I am still very interested in getting off the line nicely- and dont want to totally sacrifice low end performance/take-off. I also am very interested in reliablity- and dont feel the desire to get extreme w/ tuning- it is a spree after all.

I dont have a ton of 2-stroke motor knowledge (so something that can be installed and adjusted once/seasonally is ideal)but I do have capable friends... I need to do the research and purchase the right items- and thats where this great forum comes in. I really appreciate your thoughts and direction.

Thanks,
Chris

A 44 BBK (Big Block Kit) and a set of gears from Tazland001 here on the forum.

Would I have to worry about jetting or porting or any intake mods? So much info here- got a little lost in reading so much last few days...

I would prefer to keep it simple :)

A jet will be in the kit and no extra modifing necessary, you will use the stock carb, air box and exhaust.

Very cool. Would his upcoming exhaust (again, been reading too much for my own good) be something that works with this?

Chris

Both his new intake system and exhaust will be an enhancement, but if you are going to do the exhaust and intake upgrades, get the 48 mm BBK instead of the 44 BBK.

Great- I assume I can just do the 48 BBK and gears to start- and eventually add the exhaust & intake when released...

Is there a best choice/ratio for me to pick from Taz gearwise?

Thanks for your input!

Gotya- Thanks. Makes that simple I guess :)

Should I be looking into any other parts- I see alot of people use SB50 parts (intake/reeds) around here... is that just until Taz's intake comes out?

Yes, you can run the 48 BBK with you stock carb and exhaust, but you need the intake and exhaust to get the most out of it.

There is only one set of gears for the Spree.

:imo: I would go with th 44mm over the 48mm :imo:

The cylinder walls on the 48mm kit are paper thin and can over heat very easy. :surprise:

The 44mm is more reliable and easier to tune.

I would try to locate a kickstarter ASAP. Big Bore + electric start = dead battery

Even with the 44mm? Or just more of a concern with the 48mm?

Reliability is a real concern for me... Not sure which way to lean on this part.

I would recommend a kick start on any bbk. They are nice to have even on a stock bore. :imo:

Thanks for all the help- seems I know everything I want to do aside from 44 vs 48...
