what performance options do i have?

Does your Spree/Elite already run great, and you're trying to make it quicker/faster? Need a monster motor swap? Discuss your ideas here.

what performance options do i have?

Post by benjammer112 »

alright, let me start off by saying that i have a 1987 elite that was restricted, but i swapped the roller ramp plate, and muffler from a newer unrestricted elite, so i have a couple of questions as to performance, seeing how i unrestricted my elite, and now has a easy breathing air cleaner, i should probably up-jet right? when im going down hills and i hit 36 or 37 mph it bogs a lot untill i go back to 30 mph then it's fine for a while, so im assuming this means i'm to lean? alright well the options im looking at right now for performance are:

Upjetting__ what size should i get?

Changing rear gears, a link to the proper ones would be awesome!

possibly getting a different variator, i heard that the keli variators work nicely is that correct?

Maybe a larger back tire , like a 3.5 inch X 10, isn't that what some people do to increase the gear ratio?

sorry for all the questions but im a bit of a noob, and any help would be very much appreciated, also if theres any info that you know on the honda elite se50p 1987's that i should know about that would be great! :D
i ride so fast that my scooter flies into the sky and i rain chocolate on the little children.

First, stop running the thing until you up jet the main jet to an 85 or you will burn up the top end.

Greetings:

+1 for The Bear. Don't run with that small Main any more, presuming it's not already too late.

Fitting a 3.50 can be frustrating. a 90/90 should fit without issues except the centerstand. The 3.50 might rub on some Important Parts. The additional "Upgear" won't matter much unless you plan to retain stock gears.

If you want to gear up, choices are limited to

1. The Malossi 67-6458 primaries, which are painfully tall at 7.83:1. (good luck finding those nowadays.)

- OR -

2. Follow TrafficJamz' lead and convert the entire drive train to SA-16 spec, which will allow you to buy whatever secondaries you think will work best with the power you plan to have. Finding the whole setup won't be that easy, or cheap.

I have the primary gears in stock http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB3/viewto ... =2&t=19538

though i would not recommend them unless you at least upgrade your cylinder first. the gears will be too tall for the measly 50cc power plant.

Greetings:

You SE/05 owners yearning for 60 MPH, take heed:
Malossi early elite/vision primary gears 16/32 78.00 + 15.00$ shipping to lower 48
RedE, where were you 2 years ago when I scoured the dusty shelves of the internet to find a set of these in Trafalgarton-Upon-Snert, England. I paid a snotload more than that for 'em too. Shipping was twelve Guineas, several Shillings and a few Tuppence, too.

No a 50cc won't pull 'em anywhere very fast, but once on the Vario with a tuned 65cc kit they're fine.

67-6458: I still remember the Malossi part number by heart. Too bad I can't remember where I left my Thorazine...
