Aero ct intake

Post by turtle13 »

So I'm finally starting to get my aero put back together with the malossi bbk and am debating between keeping the stock intake VS ct intake. I really want to keep the plastics unmodified, but really want the ability to swap pilot jets and possibility of having a little more performance.
So now the question arises, has any one been able to put a ct intake on an aero and keep the stock plastics? Or has any one successfully used an aero 80 intake and carb combo to allow for greater flow and tunability (bear looking at you for this one).
If all else fails I have a 3 petal reed cage lined up with patrick, but I really don't want to be stuck with a fixed pilot, and attache carbs are getting discontinued, our so it seems, that have the bolt on flange and bystarter provisioning in the sizes I am looking for. Plus they take different jets that aren't as easy to come by.
Any ideas?

My Aero 50 is a 1985 model, so I have the Spree style 2 bolt intake and will require an adapter for the CT to work or even the Aero 80 intake and carb I have to try on the Aero 50. This is being done. As far as the rest of the of the Aero 50 line, I have no clue. I do know that the CT is a bolt on the Aero 80 block. The Aero 125 requires and adapter for the CT to fit but I have that being made too.

Is this the fabled black CT manifold that could supposedly fit under aerospace body panels?

The peugot speedfight shares the same engine as the aero/vision/lead 50...

You realize that the Black is for a very high RPM engine. It will hurt low end power.

To high for a 68cc malossi? To me, this intake looks more restrictive than the OKO CT intake. Or should I just say screw it and just run a ported stock intake with an intake adapter allowing it to match up with an aftermarket Carb and call it a day...

I have both intakes but for my street motors it will be the CT every time.

So do I have no other option other than:
using stock intake/Carb (little to no actual tunabilty)
stock intake with arreche or oko (any other aftermarket for that matter) with adapter
CT intake, but I gotta loose the side panel...
Or last and least likely, convince my wife to let me buy a welder, and build a custom intake with a larger reed cage that fits under the panels...

you dont have to LOSE the side panel, you could just trim it up a bit. i understand there is a particular wheelman w/ a "scratch&dent" that would be perfect for this job.

if you dont like the idea of having a hole in the plastic either...you could always start w/ a junker plastic, then cut out the middle bit. something like this but less.

or you could do exactly that, then fiberglass in a middle piece that bulged out a bit further than stock so your carb will fit.

looking at pics of it, it looks like you could clear it if u cut straight across the bottom right under where the Aero50 decal is.
and i'd just cut a straight line all the way to the back.

Kitaco made an intake pipe that would allow for a Mikuni VM18 carb to mount. Hard to find, but they're out there.....utilizes stock reed valves.

I have one using the Mikuni VM18 and haven't had to cut any of the body panels. (and I would NEVER cut ANY body panels)

Is this the same idea, just made by OKO? Or is this made to replace the top half on the CT? Bolt spacing looks about right for the block pattern... may just have to go this way.
Unless I can snag a set of euro vision panels, I have no plan to alter the original Aero look.

The trouble with this setup is you will still be using the stock reed assembly and any carb bigger than about a 18 mm is just a waste of time because the stock reeds are gonna be a major restriction to air flow.

Considering this will be on a 68cc bore I wasn't planning on going with a Carb over 19. I really don't see the need over Carb this thing and loose all low end response. Especially considering this is going to be pushed by the malossi gears, its gonna need everything its got off the line.
