How fast will it go?

Post by arick793 »

I have an 87 SE50 motor I'm rebuilding for an 84 spree. I'm trying to get as much as I can out of it without a big bore kit, using the stock airbox (as soon as I can find one) and stock exhaust. I'm going to hone the cylinder and use new rings on the old piston, and am thinking about installing a bigger ruima variator with bigger "center springs", to help with take off. With proper jetting and a 160 pound rider, how fast do you think it'll go?

Greetings:

Stock-ish SE/05 variated engines run 40-ish. If you have the 10:1 gears it might go a bit faster downwind...

40 in a spree or in the SE50? If it does 40ish on the SE50 then I think I can be pretty happy with my setup (variator doesnt change bottom end power, only adds top speed, and the springs will make for a more powerful take off)

WHAT! Since when does the variator not improve off the line? I think you need to go back to variator basic school.

This is the most untrue statement ever. :surprise:

The exact opposite is true.

a properly tuned variator will give you decent acceleration, and maintain a good top end.

Okay okay! I've only researched variators enough to know that I need an aftermarket one to do what I want with the scooter. The advertisements I've seen all focus mainly on the increased top speed by way of the variator "adding an extra gear". So I'll just put it together with a nice variator, and the rest mainly stock, and if I don't like the take off and top speed then I'll go from there. Thanks!

If you really have an unrestricted se50 and not the se50p it should go about 40-45mph

Count the number of turns of the clutch bell for one turn of the tire.

If it is 11 you wil go 35-39mph

if it is 10 your top speed should be about 45.

Your 160 lbs and the fact that this engine is going on a spree have nothing to do with your top speed.

Without the horsepower to pull the extra gear, you are not gonna go faster.

My SE50 stock hits 40mph, but 35mph is the usual constant.
