Eliminate the fuel valve?

Post by deuce217 »

Would it be beneficial to eliminate the spree fuel vacuum valve? I was think of making an adapter with a manual on off valve.

If the petcock is bad and don't want to buy another one then go that route. As for benifit for performance, none. The engine doesn't use fuel fast enough. If your going with a stroker dio setup(102-130cc) then yes it would help and in some cases you have to put a fuel pump to keep up with fuel usage.

Eliminating the petcock is semi-dangerous. Without the valve, if the needle and seat fail (it happens, my Aero 80 did it) you end up with a puddle of gas the size of Lake Superior on the shop floor, garage or around your bike. This is a major fire hazard. If you want to be ride of it you should install a manual valve.

Would it help at all with cold starts? It seems to take several attemps to start my spree with this new carb, or do you think my tune on the a/f is off?

I've been grounded for the weekend. I got a visit from and ambulance crew last night (the wife included and she hates that) and was sent home by the ER Doc, as he could find nothing. But Tuesday is now a test day and I am to do anything physical work wise, the wife's orders which carry way more weight than the Doc's. So I watch TV, play on the computer and disassemble the 3 antique revolvers I bought on Thursday.

Merry Christmas

Get well soon, I am disssembling a old colt .38 special service pistol. It is one of my old Army friends. I need to re-blue it. Also do some work on the firing pin on the hammer, it does not always fire the round when used.

If its a stock carb, the bystarter might be bad or needs cleaning. If its an after market ,then check the plug gap and set to spec. I like .024 . Wire cap, wire end for burnt wire, and air fuel screw. Start at 1 1/2 turns out then go from there.

It can also fill the engine and lock it up. Get ready for a leg workout if that happens.

Nonsense, even the forums need some Holiday Cheer. Especially when the kids are busy playing inside the boxes their toys came in.

The lock up would suck.

*off topic I have read a few thread on here about using the 10w30 in my transmission on the spree. When I drained it it had gear oil in there. What do you guys think is best? I guess motor oil would be nice because it has less dense viscosity which could help prevent power loss.

I believe Honda specs 10W-40 for the transmission, NOT gear oil. All gear oil is gonna do is slow you down (a lot of extra dray with the thick heavy oil).

IMO, You want motor oil because it needs to lube the ball bearings, not just the gears. I would open it up to clean it well and then fill with the proper oil. While it is open, notice the passageways that Honda has designed for the oil flow. 10w-30 or 10w-40 will both work.
