if you live in a realtively flat area the 8.44s may work out good not sure I have been debating getting some for mine to try

Enjoy, I just pressed some of tazland's gearing on(technically pressed one gear on and replaced another) my spree. Too bad I cant start it! Waiting on parts and when they arrive I will see just how fast my little spree can go. Keep in mind you can help remove the old gear by heating the outer portion of the gear with propane for about a minute then remove the shaft. When installing the new gear throw the old shaft in a freezer for a few minutes, and heat the new gear up to about 300 degrees F. This will raise create about .0009'' of slop for you to insert the new gear, sometimes you do not have to press it on at all. But you must work swiftly, I put anti-seize on my axle where it enters the gear to prevent marring. Have fun!

A formula to keep in mind .000006 X size of hole X degrees above ambient temperature = thermal expansion rate.

So a 3/4'' hole if heated to 300 degrees above room temperature would look like this:

.000006 x .750 = .00000045 x 300(this is the amount above ambient temp.) = .00135'' or basically one thousandth and 4 ten-thousandths.

Why would a shop have a wimp press? I have a 40,000 pounder and it ain't even a big one.

If it is actually white smoke, it will be steam, not smoke. Now blue smoke is oil smoke.

Some day I will have a press of my own. But the thermal expansion is badass! That is how some breaches are fastened to military barrels and they never fail. Any way I should mention that aluminum and brass have about twice the growth as steel so keep that in mind if you are using those materials.

so you are saying that aluminum when heated expands more than steel or iron? I have 2 400ex heads that I need to pop the sleeves out of. my bro overtorqued one of the bolts on the bottom side of the head and broke a large chunk off so i gotta swap the new sleeve into the old head. I have been meaning to put them on a hot plate and see if i can get the sleeves out but didnt know if it would work or not

A hot plate heats to slow, you need and Oxygen/Acetylene torch or a MAP torch to heat fast enough. Propane won't do it either.

Yes aluminum expands way more than steel, but... This nice thing is aluminum heat mush faster also. So if you can heat the aluminum super fast you might make that happen but it depends on how they were originally installed. Because they tolerances vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. I would have a machine shop take care of that for you. Then have them drop new sleeves in to. I dont do my own sleeves.. Its sometimes better to have a shop that is geared towards something help out. Now that might be more than a new block.
