I just picked up a 1987 Honda Elite SE50P the exhaust has already been derestricted, but im not sure about the ramp plate. I'm new to scooters but have spent the last week researching and shopping. Basicly what I want out of this scooter is a max cruising speed. I'm going to start building the drivetrain soon after i get my tax return and would like some expert opinion on what to get. IE Which ramp plate? I know there are some after market ones available, variator? springs, including clutch springs, and weights. I plan on picking up an aftermarket exhaust, carb and BBK around the end of march with my re-enlistment bonus. Thank you in advance.

For max cruising, I would stick with the stock springs if they are in spec. Polini for dio vari if you don't want to trim the case any. Ruck vari if you are willing to trim. The bbk will be able to pull the top ratio of any vari when you keep the stock gears. The ramp plate that comes with the vari is usually the best. It depend a lot on which vsri you pick, some don't offer interchangeable plates.

If the exhaust was derestricted, was the carb upjetted? If not you are looking for a melted piston.

I actualy have no clue if the jet has been touched, chances are that it hasn't. What size should I order?

99101-187-0850. They come from Honda as big as 88. Collect 'em all!

Im a newb when it comes to this and im looking to do the same modifications as op, but in the short while ive been looking and reading i can only assume the dio vari is the stock one. I dont mean to hijack this thread but i was just looking for a bit more indepth info than what the op requested.

Dio is a model. There are several aftermarket variators for the dio. They will fit the se50 if you can use the stock ramp plate. The se50 crankshaft is smaller than the dio.

Thanks the smaller shaft is no issue. I can make a sleave for it. At work.

So if I go with the aftermarket dio variator I have to use a stock ramp plate? Why would the variator fit but not the ramp plate? Does this also apply to the ruckus variator and ramp?

No, you don't have to use the stock ramp plate. It is just a guaranteed way to ensure fit. My polini for dio needed some light grinding to fit best. I use the stock ruckus ramp plate when using the ruck vari. The boss will keep the vari centered. The vari will keep the ramp centered. The plate shouldn't bind but just be sure your slides are good and the rollers are installed properly.

I'm going to buy one of those assorted roller weight kits to dial it in when I finally get this stuff all together
