that is pretty kewl man :D now you just drill out the middle to equal whatever weight you need. how did you get the aluminum coated with plastic?

Thanks, and exacto-mundo on the drill to get to desired weight. I also have steel and brass to machine if heavier weights are needed. As far as how I got the Plastic coated on the outside...

First I made a bore size for the "plastic" then I made a press fit piece of aluminum to press in that beast. So basically I made a 16mm piece with a inside bore of say, 13mm then pressed a piece that was around 13.5mm into that bore. But that material I am using is far, far more than just plastic. It is a self lubricating material called nylatron. Nylatron is used in rotary lever actuators where unusual shapes are required. They are also used as heavy-duty caster wheels, normally as a replacement for cast iron or forged steel.

thats awsome.....but if you make the weights stronger, what will happen to the var.s :nerd:

thats pretty smooth, not familiar with the coating but it sounds hightech :D as long as the coating is not as strong as the metal of the variator and ramp plate as fastplastic suggests. It is better for hte weights to wear flat spots than the vari to develop flat spots :D Some people think that if a roller develops wear its cheap but thats not true, friction will always case this but the rollers are coated with plastic so as not to damage the vari over time. Roughly how much does the materials cost to make a set?

Thanks Veedub, I should make one soon. Lol

As far as the new material is concerned it should not wear the variator at all. The reason it is superior to standard plastics is the lubrication that is impregnate in the material itself. Nylatron is short for "graphite-impregnated nylon" the graphite lubricates the roller without attracting dirt, unlike petroleum base lubricants.

I am assuming you are talking to me. If we are addressing people by rank I missed the memo.
So, CB900F I will have to get back to you Sir. I dont know much about the variator weights, but once I do some testing I will report my results. I will even try to include photos and videos as learning aids to help others learn. Take care!

*Carnie, will do. Which weight do you want them in Carnie?

They look d*** good. Kinda nice to see made in the USA. hehe. I wonder how long they will last?? Might want to test with a daily driver to see how they wear in the variator. If they are as good as they look you might be onto something. Thats if the cost of materials is cheap and you can pump them out fast.

Eventually I would like an entire set to best tune my scoot but could start with 9s.

Yeah taz, I can produce them cheap. Fast is something machinists never accomplish. But I will not make that part of the cost. I will get you lined up for sure with some to try.

I think it would be better to tune with cheap ones then I could make your desired ones for the specific weight once you find the sweet spot.
