SE50 Compatable Variator measurements

Post by JustynCRX »

I remember seeing a post that had all the vari measurements that will fit on the SE50. But for some reason I can't find it anywhere. Could someone tell me the max diameter I can use without grinding my case?

Greetings:

I'm convinced that castings vary by serial number, even in the same model year. I came to this conclusion because Scooterwerx once reported his stock Ruckus variator fit without modding, while other AF05 block owners had to shave .

Stock SE and SA vario diameter is ~87mm. Measure the distance to the closest hardware, multiply by 2, and that's how big you can go. The Polini -for-Dio (fits SE/05 as well) I had was 91mm. No shaving was necessary on my 05 or 16 blocks. Polini-for-Ruckus was 94mm. Had to cut a bit. My current BrandX vario is 97mm. Had to cut more.

Greetings:

I saw this unbranded (the logo carved in the casting reminds me of Malossi) "For Ruckus" variator on eBay and took a chance for like $30. It arrived looking brand new, and except for the ridiculous 97mm diameter it fit without issues over the ZX pulley boss. I liked it better than my Polini, although I've never bothered with side-by-side objective testing. Let's say it works at least as well. Until it wears out, or I have a hankerin' to try something different, I'll stick with it.
