The clutch is going to slip more with taller gears.

Why not just leave the rear half of the cover off?

Several people have drilled holes in the oem cover. I suggest removing the cover from the engine so you don't drill into mechanical or stressed parts.

Sorry I should have been more specific. I already leave the rear housing off, I was talking about drilling around the actual clutch bell that the clutch shoes grab on.

Like cross drilling? It can de done. I had an aftermarket bell like that. I've always been a bigger fan of increasing heat dissipating surface area than decreasing my friction grabbing contact area for increased venting. Like a finned clutch bell.

Some people also drill large holes in the front part of the cover for fresh air to come in past the variator instead of a back draft effect.

DON'T DO THAT!!!! it will unbalance the bell and the bell will blow up. the clutch bells that have holes drilled also have a reinforced ring on the outside of the bell to keep it from exploding. drilling the bell will weaken it. if you dont believe a clutch will explode. watch this video.

I guess I won't be drilling my clutch bell housing any time soon, :nervous:
if ever!

Yup, I've noticed that reinforced ring on a couple of those pre-drilled clutches. :)
