Gaskets!!

Post by Madman »

Ok so I've been going through my bike looking for and fixing potential air leak areas.
And I made some new gaskets for my ct intake. Do I need to oil them before I use them or just put them on dry?

I don't know if you should oil them or not but I have heard about people using high temp silicone brake grease on gaskets like those and cyl. head gaskets so the don't stick and tear when you want to pull things apart next time. No I don't know if that's a good Idea either but I bet someone will say if it is. Oh and those gaskets are sweet nice job! :thumbwink:

Oil or even grease works just fine. Just don't use it like gasket sealer. Just barely coat the gasket and wipe off any excess.

Thanks Bear! And does this help with sealing or just assists when removing?

Saves the gasket when you have to tear it apart. Did an engine once and 4 years later pulled it down again and not one gasket was tore up taking the motor apart.

Not trying to hyjack your thread, but a few years ago someone was trying to come up with files to load into a Cricut machine to cut replacement gaskets. Did that ever happen?

You guys have me all inspired to cut my own gaskets now. So much in fact I went to the store today and got the hollow end punches to cut the bolt holes and gasket paper. I have my intake for my spree all ported and the new intake gaskets aren't here yet from ebay so a cutting I will go tomorrow!
