24mm oko, pg long, nikasil 78cc BBK, what jetting?

Post by steffen707 »

Okay gurus, i'm ordering a 24mm oko and the nikasil 78cc BBK to pop my BBK cherry. :) I'm wondering what jetting I should start with ( on the safe-ish side). I'm thinking i'll order a needle kit, idle jet, and main jet kits from treatland.tv along with the carb today so I have all the tuning options.

I'm also thinking of ordering up one of those vapor displays that show rpm, mph, engine temp. Kinda a cool little display, if I get crafty maybe I can build it into the dash of the elite. :)

I think i want the 120-180 oko jet kit, and not the 80-120. I think i saw wheelman around the 150 area for his jetting, albeit that was on a 26mm oko, and i'm getting a 24mm oko this time around.

VT Cycles says "Now on a OKO 24mm, we jet the carb on a 82cc Dio set up with a performance sport exhaust at #115 to #120 main. The Pilot at #40 to #45."

Maybe i should get the large jet kit, and also a 115 for an extra $3 on the same order, that way i'll be good with jets for the future and won't have to wait or pay for more shipping in the future.

But is their 82cc setup make as much power as a corsa bbk?

What has that got to do with it? This is a starting place, not the end result of proper jetting.

Lets say somebody suggests a jetting for a real * (makes no power) bbk, and you use that jetting on your super awesome high HP producing BBK.

Well if the * BBK makes no power, then jet sizing for that would create a lean situation on your high HP producing BBK.

Of course i'm exagerating the crap out of the HP numbers here, but you see where my logic is coming from? VT cycles 82cc setup isn't the same as a corsa, thus why i asked how the differences between BBKs would effect the jetting suggestions.

Perhaps i'm way wrong, but a 145 is way more than a 120. Do you really think during break in, you need that much more cooling effect?

Greetings:

I've got 46/125 in my OKO 26. Yes only 72ccs, but bigger carb and much higher revs. Don't blame me if it grenades, though... Watch temps and check the spark plug after a very short ride to be sure.

From what I'm reading, Bear offered 115-120 main, you came back with that seems way too small for your application. Veedub offered 145, you say way too big.
IMO you need to step back and weigh the input you're getting, instead of not liking any suggestion from the gurus on here. They are not setting you up to fail.

You sir, are DUMB.

If you take the first piece of information somebody gives you with blind faith, you are going to fail in life. Bears suggestion was from vtcycles based on their 82cc kit, my only point in that I didn't like bears suggestion, was that it wasn't for a corsa with 24mm oko and a pg long, it was with vtcycles bbk(whatever brand they sell) and a sport exhaust.

I know others like wheelman have used the same exact setup that i'm going with, so i was hoping to hear some people chime in. After sifting through all of wheelman's flash 3.2(i think) build I found he liked somewhere around the 50pilot and 120main, I consulted with bakaracer, and he suggested the same exact thing.

Of course i'm not going to just jet it and forget it, I'm going to do as wheelman suggested and do plug chops and watch my temp after i get my trailtech vapor installed.

So really i only disagreed with veedubh20 without much explanation that 145 is way too rich. And i'm basing that on knowing what bakaracer, wheelman, bear have all suggested. 8)

Yeah, pretty much, the experts give you numbers like you asked and you told them all that they are wrong. Real good way to get more help. :jack:
