quest for 70mph

Post by TikiMan »

Hey,
Currently Im running my 87se50 (af16e motor swap) I have the mhr racing kit, 24mm oko carb, ct intake, and a pg long exhaust, polini ruckus vari and 8.2 gears. I pull to 60mph extremely well and up to 65mph with a good tuck at the right time. But thats where it maxes out. I know switching to a 28mm carb would help with top end but my .6 gallon gas tank takes the hit. Should I switch the carb or maybe try gears? My highest red line on a run was 12385 according to the vapor. Gps speedo was 66mph.

something doesnt sound right. if your maxing rpms at 12.3k, with 8.2 gears you should easy see 70+ mph. if your max topspeed is only 65mph then more than likely your max rpms will be around 9700 with those gears. mark your pulley with a sparpie and see how high the belt is riding. if your truely peaking at 12.3k then your belt ride height is not maxing out on the pulley and is probably sitting about 1/2in from the top like a restricted unmodded af16 motor does

also show a pic on how you wrappped the tach pickup wire. if that is done incorrect you will have false reading. or the pulse adjust in the settings might be wrong

I connected the tach onto the trigger wire for the coil. I installed a new crimp end over both wires. I will take a shot of the vari when I get a chance this evening.

Do what baka says and verify how high the belt is riding on the vari.

if its a trail tech vapor gauge your using, you dont connect the wire to anything. it needs to be wrapped around the plug wire near the coil. follow the instructions that came with the gauge.
