2001 Elite S 50: Big Bore Recommendations

Post by W8kbrder »

Question for you guys:

1.) What combination do you guys recommend for a Big Bore Kit and bigger Carb/intake? Looking for someone to point me in the direction of something that is a decent upgrade from the stock head/cylinder but does not require a lot of complex fabrication. (See my signature for current upgrades that have already been completed)

2.) What do you recommend to go with the Big Bore kit? (carb, intake, exhaust, etc)

Really don't need a crazy top speed. With the current setup...its pushing 43mph. I was looking for somethign to get me up to the 50mph mark....give or take a little.

What would be the next step up from a stock head? 51mm? Thats pretty much what I'm looking for.....an upgrade from teh stock head/cylinder.

I used a GPS.

I'm just curious how much of a difference it would be with a BBK. Say a 50mm....is it even worth it?

Sorry I'm a bit confused by your response. I do not have a tack on it. And I'm sorry as I gave some incorrect info. My average speed with stock gears was around 41mph....sometimes 43mph if I was lucky (and tucked). This is going by GPS so I'm not sure how accurate that is with my crappy Garmin. I just installed the 9:1 gears and have not tested it yet for any new speeds. But while its apart, I'm trying to figure out if I should go ahead and do a big bore kit.

Basically what will a 50mm Big Bore Kit combined with the 9:1 gears get you to as far as top speed is concerned? Would a bigger carb and aftermarket exhaust compliment the two above mentioned items?

i think the stock piston is 39mm a 50mm bbk is nice but you shooed go with a bigger carb and a nice pipe will help you will see more rpm out of the bbk the more air you can get in and the more rpm you will get out of it ... you may see 50ish out of her with just the 9/1 finale drive and the rest stock ..

Awesome thanks! I think I'm just gonna go for it and get the 50mm Big Bore Kit that Taz sells.

Any recommendations on an exhaust and bigger carb?

If you're just looking for about 50 then Id say go with a 24mm carb and a v8 exhaust (make sure the v8 is the one designed for 50-72cc). Might even be able to run a smaller carb like 21mm. And get a UNI filter too

Any recommendations (or links) on where to get the V8, OKO and UNI filter?

UNI can get from the UNI website. You need the one that is 2".

What would you guys say is the most modest reliable proven Big Bore Setup that requires no machine work or heavy modification?

I'm talking head/piston, size carb, size/type exhaust, intake, etc.

The best bolt on performance :imo: is pollni 72cc or malossi 72cc

You can use the stock exhaust and carb, you just need to change the jetting.

Then later if you want to go really fast you can get a better pipe.
