I've seen a lot of debate regarding the use of 10w 30 Motor Oil or regular gear oil for the primary/secondary gears.
Whats the advantages/disadvantages of either/or?

Well I always just use the honda specified 10w-30, but its probably not all that important so long as you have enough of some type of lube in there since its just some gears to change ratios in a scooter.

Gear oil is too thick.
Motor oil is all you need.

Will it hurt if I currently have gear oil in there? Should I drain it and replace with motor oil?Trafficjamz wrote:Gear oil is too thick.

Weight and viscocity are very important. Even in scooter gears. 10w-30 sythetic is the best way to go. Honda also recommends 10w-30 in most of thier manual transmission carsdevenex wrote:Well I always just use the honda specified 10w-30, but its probably not all that important so long as you have enough of some type of lube in there since its just some gears to change ratios in a scooter.
