Honda Spree fix up on a budget?
Hello, new here but figured everyone here might be able to shed some light on how I should do this. I have an 87' Honda Spree and was just looking for a little bit of extra speed, I'm up for just about anything and am ready to learn, however I am, like everyone looking for the most "bang" for my buck. I've been looking at some motor swaps and they seem to do pretty well for everyone, but I don't have a lot of experience and don't know how involved that whole process is.
Thanks for looking.

Engine swaps are not for the inexperienced. How fast is your bike and how fast do you want to go?

25-28 mph on hills
almost 35 mph flat
I would like a more consistent 35 mph and hopefully a little faster maybe almost hitting 40 mph? Is that to much to ask from it?

Re: Honda Spree fix up on a budget?
you need a SE50 AF05E variated motor and rear wheel and a SE50 engine mount .Do a search here a motor swap with this mount can be done with no welding .You will have to driil a new hole thru the frame with a bolt thru for the rear shock mount other than that its easy.Wireing is colour for colour once fitted a aftermarket vari some trans tuning and 40 is easy .Add a big bore kit carb exhaust and you could see 50mph with heaps of power but this is where money comes into play not alot but its still money. You could spenda couple of hundred dollars buying bbks for your spree motor and you wont be happy for the same price you could have a se50 motor swap .Thats my 2 cents anyway

Is a SE50 engine different than an aero engine or early elite sa50? I thought they were all basically the same...?

so long as its a variated AF05E with the 4 bolt manifold its will be fine .But you do need the SE50 motor mount to do it without welding

Re: Honda Spree fix up on a budget?
Sweet. I've got a couple aero engines on the shelf that I've been thinking of doing something with. Was thinking about an aero-ped. Saw a old post on here where someone made one. Think I'll try the spree swap now if I can find a mount. I just assumed it involved making a mount which involves welding which I have still not learned to do, yet. Thanks for the tips!

Re: Honda Spree fix up on a budget?
In just finished my spree build with a spree engine, taller gears, big bore kit, 21mm carb kit and mlm pipe along with some head work. Not sure how fast it gos but its well over 40. A swap may be less messing around though

Re: Honda Spree fix up on a budget?
Where to buy this big bore kit for the AF05E? I have that motor sitting here (actually for sale) but maybe I can just rebuild it and swap if I find a cheap spree on craigslist.

Re: Honda Spree fix up on a budget?
Everyone has a budget... But how much money is in that budget is the key to it all, speed costs money no way around it. I love my bigbore kit set up on my spree but it got a little spendy. If you can do a variated swap for a good price I would look at that along side of the spree bbk option and see which one fits your needs the best. Keep in mind to get the real benift out of a spree motor the MLM pipe is a must purchase no matter what IMHO . if you decide to stay with the spree motor I would get the spree mlm pipe and go really stiff clutch springs and start there. Because the pipe rules whether you go bbk or stock bore so get it first and start grinning when you twist the grip
