upgrades to a dd50

Post by bobbygerard »

Looking at trying to get a little more acceleration without sacrificing top speed to much. Any tips would be helpful. Im dropping rollers down to 7 gram and looking at possibly a boost bottle. On another note I notice the jetting alot of you guys have 45 125. I have oko 24mm I have it tuned in to what myself and my mechanic mate believe is perfect at 45 86. Im not sure it may be a tempreture and humidy thing I live in the north of australia. 35 celuis and up 100% humidity.

What's your gearing? I would increase your clutch shoe springs to at least 1500rpm ones to give it a little more rev off the line, it shouldn't affect your top speed. Dropping your roller weights will affect your top speed. I would mark the pulley first to see if your belt rise max before dropping your roller weights.

My gearing is stock. Is the jet sizes other are using because they have ported?

it must be pulling some serious rpms to hit 100kmh with stock gears .There must be at least a larger rear tyre than stock .Any sym dd50 i have had would touch 80 kmh with full tuck but i just dont see the stock gears going to 100kmh.

It goes way past 80 very easy. Even when completely stock would go 72kph. My tiawon kit even used to go way past 80. So instead of just putting s*** on the scoot. How about some genuine advice.

We need valid info on your bike to help mate .Have you counted how many turns the clutch bell makes to on full turn of the rear wheel ? Maybe someone else fitted gears .I ask because you want more take off not top end if someoneelse has fitted aftermarket gears then going back to stock will help bottom end heaps and kill some top speed .Dont be rude or no one will wanna help.

Sorry not meaning to be rude just thought you were taking the mickey. True top speed im unsure ill have to check with my gps. I know the scoot still has alot of pick up past 80. So 100 is a rough estimate. The gearing is stock 100%. I have had scooter since brand new. I have starting trying to tune scoot up. I only ride in 70 zones so was hoping for all acceleration no top speed

can you give us a gear ratio ? Im just curious to know what gearing it came with stock on a aussie model .Just count the amount of turns the clutch bell makes to one full rotation of the wheel .12:1 10:1 9:1? You could shim the front pully out so the belt belt rides lower in the front pully and higher in the rear dont shim it too much so the belt slips

Just took to the scoot to Macdonalds used the gps to get a accurate reading it appears my speedo is out of wack. At 68kph the speedo say 80. Actual top speed recorded on the gps was 86kph. Happy with that as my top I only ride mainly on 70kph roads. Im somewhat at loss where to go next with my build im not very mechanical. Im ok when it comes to just bolting on new parts. Dont thing I would even attempt to try port the jug and block. Here in australia its called a sym jolie just a renamed dd50 not sure why. With malossi cast iron would acceleration decrease if I put bigger gearing in. I like doing wheelies lol.

Greetings:

The Malossi should increase the power smartly. Matching the gearing to that increased power will allow both better acceleration - remember the variator system compensates for taller Final Drive - AND faster top speed.

If you like doing wheelies I would leave the stock gears on. Install the malossi bbk, get a bigger carb, chamber pipe and tune your drive to rev. Although the dd50 is pretty heavy so MAYBE you might able to wheelies but you won't get much improvement if any top speed and definitely run a lot hotter because of the gearing at higher speeds. You'll need to have a press to change the gears.

Are you saying you're using a 24mm carb already? At that jetting you would be very lean if using a 47mm bore, or very rich using a 39mm bore (stock).
Humidity is a major factor but not that major to be off 20+ jet sizes.

When you hit 70kph why don't you let off the throttle and save gas? Stupid question I know.
If you really want to slow her down and get a bit more low end and less top end, swap out the counter and final for a stock Af16e. It will give you 12:1 final ratio. And more wheelie action. Direct swap, no pressing as long as you get a complete set.
love the sig, flying Fk'in kangaroo!
