2001 Elite S 50 performance

Post by kirt70camaro »

Just bought a 2001 Elite S 50cc yesterday. It has 6300 miles on it and low compression. I was thinking about buying a big bore kit. What is recommended? I want it to look all stock with the stock pipe. Want to beat up my friends RAZZ. Want to spend no more than $200. What else would you recommend. I know you can drill out the restrictor in the pipe.

Thanks Kirt

can also take out a tab in the airbox. When I got my 01 star it was a pig I got a new variator and gears opening it open quite a bit. Not gonna spend less than 200 bucks if you want a BBK. I loved my contessa BBK on my semistock bike. Check out the GOOCH thread in the builders workshop went from stock to corsa mostly documented on the upgrades I did and results

^ agreed 50mph is pretty easy to acomplish on the stock bore with some nice bolt on goodies and a good tune along with the stock restrictions removed. And to beat a razz won't take much so it should be an easy feat!

I have a lightly used Malossi MHR cylinder kit for sale. It will fit perfectly in the fan shroud and appear stock. It will be hindered by the stock pipe and carb but you can always upgrade those later if you want.

I just bought it and haven't had time to check compression. Seller said it was hard to start but if you could get it to start and warmed up it ran ok.

Not trying to go 50mph just want to beat up my friends stock Razz and my other friends 50cc Eton?.

This is what I was thinking about buying for it.

The stock jug and piston kit is half the price as the big bore so I figured the big bore was the way to go.

You say now that you don't want to go 50, we shall see what you say a while from now. Speed is like crack! Graphite9 sells an assortment of BBK kits. Love my contessa with a low/mid range pipe it was a rocket! Love it and was great in town. If wasn't such a noob Id still be running it. all depends on what kinda driving your looking for. Oh pics or didn't happen!

This is going to be used while camping or just riding around old country roads. Really not looking to go real fast just accelerate quickly. Don't want to put a lot of money in it have better things to spend my money on. Scooter is pretty dirty need to clean it up. Need the cover that goes over the battery as you can see it's missing. What battery is a good one to get?

Hi. if your friend cut the rev limiter wire on the eton he can get close to 50mph.
that big bore kit looks ok. break it in easy. Upjet the carb , get 9to1 gears, performance variator, a tto temperature gauge so you don't burn up the new bore. you should see speeds of 50-55mph.
then you can beat your friends. :thumbwink:
Life's a trip enjoy the ride.

Greetings:

The piston/cylinder clearances are a Critical Factor. Despite the attraction of an 82cm3 displacement, a $120 Taiwanese cylinder kit won't necessarily be faster, and almost certainly be much less reliable than stock or Italian cylinders, in my direct personal experience. (And by "unreliable" I mean it will seize and strand you on the road...) The cylinders aren't perfectly true, and the pistons plucked from a bin are considered "matched" with cylinders plucked from another.

Good practice involves careful measurement of each dimension and putting kits together that have been rigorously inspected for precise fit. You generally don't get that for $120. unless you get very lucky. That big boost port needs to be matched, and if you cut your crankcase, the excellent Polini Corsa cylinder can no longer be installed.

A good-running all-stock Elite, uncorked, will run circles around a Razz if that's all you want to do. Don't waste, but save your money for an Italian or maybe a Nicasil 49, which was the only non-Italian cylinder I found as reliable as stock, albeit a little slower than Malossi and Polini Iron kits. Get 9:1 gears and 50 is possible, even with a 50cc bore.

Buy Whiteys used cylinder. Hes in Michigan. He pulled it off a fully functional bike to upgrade cc's. Best deal out there right now for your budget.
