Case Half Sealing

Post by Ben L. »

Hey I'm getting ready to install a new crank and bearings in my AF16.

I purchased Yamabond 5 to seal up the case halves. It is made for high temp usage but noticed the local motorsports store has Yamabond high temp also.

Can anybody tell me if you used the Yamabond 5 to seal your cases?

Thanks!

If your engine originally used a paper gasket for the case halves, and you remove the paper gasket, doesn't that put an undesirable side load on the crank bearings ?
Whatever the gasket thickness measured , say 0.020" , if you remove that gasket, aren't you side loading the bearings that amount ?

Af16 does not use a paper gasket to start with. Af05 on the other hand does and they recommend you keep it that way and don't use liquid gasket in its place.

Greetings:

Yamabond and Hondabond might come from the same barrel-o'-goo at some Japanese petrochemical manufacturer. I really don't think it makes much difference which you use, but for $15 bucks a tube, why not go with the stuff Honda recommends?

Thank you. I actually found some hondabond from my last engine build. I'll use that since its holding up good.
