Jetting my first time

I have an af16 with the taz lands 50mm bbk and the oko 21mm carb. It was way lean at 102 jet and way fat at 120 jet, it would bog out and spit fuel out of carb, is this normal for the range to be this short on this build or is there a possiblity the bore is messed up?

Well I would get a polini if I could affoard it, im in the process of obtaining the 102-118 jets I ordered 120-138 and it was too big at 120... so yeah maybe if I can find an used 24mm polini.

Greetings:

Jumps, here's a reminder that Flash 9, a 72cc Polini cast iron cylinder with a stock carb , airbox and pipe runs great on a 90 but falls flat on its face with a 92. Unrideable. The range of correct jetting can be very narrow indeed. Split the difference, then test noting CHT and the spark plug color. You will find your Bliss.

Piolet is at 42 and sounds and looks good on the plug and the needle is untouched.

Okay this heavily relives me, I figured the range would be the difrence of at least 5 jets either way. Not 2/1

The pilot is spot on. A 42 is perfect for that set up. What happened when you ran the 102? If a 102 was to lean for your set up I'm guessing the honey spot would be 108-110 with a 42 pilot. Maybe even as fat as a 112.

I see where your going with this melo. So to set the record straight once again. The Chinese have put out clone carbs of various makes and models. They have saturated the market with these cheap cloned carbs and a lot of people have a hard time tuning them. That has given the perception that oko carbs out of Taiwan are not good and thats just not the case. The OKO carbs out of Taiwan and other carb makers out of Taiwan are well made and respond to tuning. This has been documented on this site and other sites over and over again. OKO is not the only carb that the Chinese have ruined. They clone lots of stuff that is crap. So if anyone has a OKO that won't tune it is not made in Taiwan. Its not an original.

It was the kit tazland the one above your post with the tazzy devil as his icon. You can also find them under ebay as chopchop001*

Its a decent carb for what it is.

I wasnt getting at the clone thing... Just curious what those carbs go for. Ive read alot of posts from those with ur kits and they all seem like satisfied customers. I grew up in hawaii with DD50's everywere. Made in taiwan clone dio motors and they rip *.

I just got nerves I figured jeting was vary hard and stuff this seems alot easier than you guys make it out to, its as simple as watching temps and reading plugs. Just takes time, which im not good at that bit. Today I got a few more heat cycles and there is maybe a drop worth of oil out of the exhaust gasket

Mr J, you may need to source another exhaust gasket. The one you have is not doing the job. Find one made out of all metal. Take the old gasket with you to help you find the right size when you go around to different motorcycle shops. Also, I would tighten the flange bolts first and use thick washers to help spread the pressure, then tighten the two bolts on the side. You can not let that leak at all. Keep checking it until you are certain it will not leak while riding it.
