I was just about to sell my 87 elite S because I really want an af16. I found a guy that has an af16 motor and I had the idea to swap it. I checked on here for info and the question may have been answered before but it seems alot fo these threads are spree specific. I just want to know how hard it will be to put the af16 engine in? Im being offered the case, pipe, carb, crank, cylinder, stator, rear cover, clutch and fan for $500. Will it fit is the main question and any other info i can get.
Thanks

Re: 87 elite af16 swap question
Greetings:
Never swapped an SA16 into the SE frame, but reading about it, it's a relatively easy swap. My question is how does a Stock engine cost $500? Hope it's low mileage and in good shape.

Re: 87 elite af16 swap question
Its not stock it comes with the stroker crank, polini carb, bbk, and the racing exhaust. Thats the only reason im considering it. or I may just sell the 87 elite and keep looking for the 94-01. Ive had bad luck with people buying them from under me but I do have this one .https://keys.craigslist.org/mcy/5563914919.html available, It just looks rusty and does not run and teh guy is being a hard * on the price wont budge. Ive got the 87 already but I might just keep looking until I find the right one. I the swap is easy I will attempt it but I am not finding anything specific online about it.Wheelman-111 wrote:Greetings:

hi. You may want to take into consideration brakes.
You need the bigger 95mm shoes. To stop.
more time and money if you have to change them.

Ped is absolutely right! The first step to making a vehicle faster is to plan for better brakes. The swap to a late-Elite 95mm panel is hands-down the best bang-for-your-buck modification you can make, and totally Bolt-On for Aero, SE50 and early SA50 models from '88 to '93. Look for the panels on fEeBaY and scour Total Ruckus' Met Forum for a set of Metro wheels to match. Then hit Graphie up for a set of squeaky but grippy Malossi racing shoes, and you got yourself some decent stopping power. Sure, not as good as a disk, but a whole lot better than the 80mm drum you have now.

I think they really ARE racing brakes. Squeak like banshees at both ends during street riding, but they quiet down if they get hot enough on the track. Too bad there're no twisties in Deepinnaharta.
