MALOSSI 72CC SPORT CAST questions

Post by Rip_City_Spree »

Well the GOOCH is getting a new top end soon as the corsa is working on chewing gum and spit at this point. still running great but its just a matter of time before it gives up the ghost. So I picked up the Malossi 72cc sport cast from G9 as the deal was to good to pass up. after much thought I decided to reign it in a bit. 70 is all fun and all but with the the pg long its just too d*** loud to ride it as much as I like and even ride it in my hood without * off my neighbors.
what Im looking for is other peoples set ups with this kit. I will be running my old R1 exhaust on with it as its a great sleeper pipe and still rips(once I get it burned out). just looking for tips on the setup to get it close then I can dial it in. thanks in advance.

I don't think the pg long would be your loud noise maker compared to the noise the carburetor puts out with just a foam sock "pod" air filter. Unless the pipe is gutted out.
I did this viewtopic.php?f=4&t=31568to my malossi cast motor but it lost about 10-15% of the performance due to the "restricted" air flowing thru the motor. Just my experience here, but I previously ran a pg short and 26mm oko/pod filter and it was louuuuddd also.

That may be but at 7k cruising through my hood that pipe is loud enough. wide open is not really an issue for me its the 5:30am commute through my very sleepy hood. It's cool I know what I'm getting into. I needed a new bbk and looking for reliable everyday usage and I know it's not gonna scream like the Corsa. It's more about being able to ride everyday and still get up the hills I need to. For $125 if I don't like it I'll get another Corsa and go back.

My cast is running with stock exhaust and carb. I top out right around 60 with 9:1 gears. It does get hot at long wide open runs (like a few miles). Think Its just starving cause of the small carb. Got 1000 miles on it without a single hiccup. Super happy with it.

Greetings:

Wow! 60 with stock exhaust and carb? Air-box too?? Either the Malossi cast is that much stronger than the Contesta or Flash 9 and I have some work to do. 55 on my setup is the best I've seen.

Yep, stock de-restricted airbox. Variation might be your limiting factor.
