AB07 big bore kit

Hello all,

My name is Niels, i’m from Belgium and i’m currently restoring a 1980’s Honda Melody.
Its a fairly rare scooter here on mainland Europe and it’s quite hard to get parts and information for the little thing.
Mechanically it seems very similar to your Spree’s and Aero’s.
As you can see, the thing has seen better days, but thats about to change.

The scooter is running an ‘AB07e’ engine.
Past weeks i have been cleaning engine and gathering replacement parts. (Replacement bigger intake and carb, brake shoes, belt etc..)
However, while disassembling the cilinder i found out its all a bit worn and scratched, probably running lean or on low oil. So, might as well just replace that!

Now comes my question; i have been reading trough this forum and the wiki about this particular engine, but i cant seem to find out if there is a Big Bore cilinder kit available for this particular engine. I’ve read on the wiki that early ‘aeros’ had Some type of engine that doesnt have any aftermarket parts, is it the same ‘AB07e’?

Will be opening a project thread soon if anyone’s interested.

Thanks in advance!
Best regards, Niels

cant find one because they don't have one for the ab07. if youre handy with a Dremel, the honda lead af01 cylinder fits, same stroke 39.3mm, the exhaust flange is same, but the ports a bigger on the af01. I jb welded the cases and opened up the case ports to match the cylinder. ive had motor built and running for almost 2 years now. still runs great no leaks or issues. if I did it again though I would weld cases and machine mounting surfaces flat then Dremel out the ports. a piaggio cylinder looks close too but I haven't found any stud spacing info on that cylinder so use the piaggio cylinder at your own risk. if you can get stud spacing and cylinder heights I can compare notes.
the next issue is variator. stock variator diameter is small and uses a weird boss. 15mm ID 22mm OD. I used a gy6 boss 14mm ID 20mm OD, and bored the ID out to 15mm. then you can run any of the dio, af05e aftermarket variators, they all have 20mm OD diameter bosses.
mine will do 60mph on flat ground. dio performance exhausts wil fit, just need to clock the flange. theres a bunce ive done to mine. Let me know if you have any other questions. id be happy to help ya.

I had an Ab07 for a bit...its best to scrap the motor and swap in something variated. Whatever motor is cheap and plentiful in Belgium. However, you likely wont find anything that bolts right up. Minor fab work for an engine hanger, shock mount and some basic wiring wont be too big of a task.

ummmm ab07 is variated.... and has a bigger stock stroke by almost 2mm... just saying...
also an af05e aero or es elite bbk can fit on the ab07, youll need a base spacer and a new exhaust for that though ill email myself some pics and resize them so I can post up here. I have a build thread on 49cc with a bunch of picks when I built it.

I had a Sky..I was thinking the Melody had the same motor....the mini does. Cant recall the engine code but it wasnt variated and a total slug. I shouldnt post in such a hurry. My bad.

So no further mods except for the baseplate and an exhaust?
Sounds a lot easier than modding the cases tbf

there is some port matching that still needs to be done. they are not exactly identical. but they are similar. I took some pics of a few different cylinders just need to label and resize them to post on here
