Turn my '87 Elite SE50(P) into an SE50(S)

Post by hagstrbh »

Is this possible? The (P) stands for 'Ped on this Elite model, which accounts for my top speed of 27 mph... How different are these machines (S vs P)? Is the difference just in the clutch? (Could I reinstall a SE50S clutch on my SE50P?) Anything?

Also, I've taken apart the bike looking for the restrictors as described on http://www.scootertherapy.com/Eliteclutchpage.html
The muffler washer and restrictor plate aren't there on my scoot, so it's something more than that.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

the ad your lookin at is the elite s engine. i have the same engine u have. i think.....dont quote me though, the difference is ones a iowa model. only difference i seen on these engines, is the muffler. the main pipe is all one size. did u install a shift kit on yours? did u do any mods to yours? just wondering what kind of speeds u get on yours. i hit 40 no problem. 8)

No shift kit, no mods... As labeled, I'm a Noob. :) Those are the kinds of suggestions I'm looking for. I just don't know what's possible on the SE50P bike. (Starting with anything I can do short of a new engine... maybe that'll come later.)

I do a pathetic 27 mph right now. I was proud to get it on the road, and thought I'd be happy with whatever it could do, but it's been a month, and I need to go!

My SE50P is slow. When I got it, it went 25-26. I upjetted, put a larger tip on the exhaust, milled the head, and cleaned all the carbon out of the exhaust port. Still goes 25-26. No washer in the header, and I pulled the restrictor off the back of the variator.

i shaved a 85 spree head, ported out the exhaust port, cut open the muffler and made all the pipes inside the muffler the same size as the inlet of the muffler, has a shift kit with the 6 rollor weights, advanced my timing........just a little bit, i have a 95 elite s carb on it with a 72-74 main jet, ported and polished intake, and a K&N filter to top it off. once it hits 25-27......the shift kit kicks in, and it will top out at 40- 42mph. good enough for me.

My SE50P went about 30 when I got it. I have it up to about 50 now. I have the Polini big bore, NH80 carb (94 main, 44 slow jets), Proma Ghost exhaust, aftermarket variator.

So in terms of a first step... is it something like the Polini kit... a new exhaust... variator? Or is it an all-at-once (or nothing at all) kind of deal?

Anything to just break 30mph!

Variator is a good first step. You won't need to reject with just doing that either. After that, it is all about how much $$$ you want to spend.

I think the only differences, is one is restricted and the other is not, the motors are the same , the rear drive is the same, only restictions, on the pulley, pipe

+1, possibly the jet size too, to compensate for the superior flowing pipe.

Unless you change the gear ratio you may hit 50 mph but you cant hold it there and you will overheat and blow the top end=been there done that.
Can't afford speed then stay away from it!
