72cc bore kit and other mods, was doing 59ish, now 46

Post by islandbayy »

As most know, I put the 72cc kit, did trany mod, main jet, pully mod, clutch spring.

Was doing about 55-59ish on this setup when I first got it on the road. Have broken it in gently since then, but top speeds are not nearly as good as they usted to be.

I now average a top speed of 45-50, and 53ish when the wind is at my back.

Ideas? Compression is very good. Have been premixing slightly each tank. Tried using regular, mid-grade and premium gas, but no difference on any of them accept smoother ride on mid-grade, no difference with premium.

Clutch pads mabe?

Also, I'm getting around 30-40mpg with this new setup, despite my longer rides with no stopping (highway).

Thanks!

Weights are good. VT Cycles gave me a number of different weights, and i've been switching them out trying to find a good set.

These are stock weights atm. I've tried 9 gram, 8 gram, 6 gram, 9's make my top speed lower, and extremly lower pickup power, 6 grams are just as bad. Best I've used have been the stock weights.

Mabe clutch pads? I checked them 200 miles ago and they were great. I will have to pull the rear clutch off.

Well, VT cycles put together a nice setup for me.

This is all I have left of the brand names, not to legiable. http://scoot.globaldc.com/bore.zip

1000 rpm spring. Belt's brand new, and still in beautyful condition.

Brand name, no idea, but VT said it was their most common setup.

check if your belt is slipping then it could be the center spring is worn already. Try this first cause your belt might not be riding as high on the rear pulley as it did before.

Ok, as soon as I get my 38mm socket from work on monday I'm going to pull that off. I may just put the orignal spring back on for kicks n giggles.

But whatis it at now, about 300 miles and the springs gone? :(

38mm fits also, just a bit more snug.

Not sure on the gear ratio, believe 9 to 1 they sent me?

#90 ish main jet they sent me, other then that, stock carb.

A 9 to 1 ratio is used for a stock deresrticted engine a 7 to 1 ratio is used for 72cc bore kits along with a 18mm carb.

Well :(

Now my scoot does 15mph. Was driving along at 40mph, and it just started going slower and slower and slower. Now I can keep it at 15mph, no more.

Pulled airbox, carb, muffler, clutches, air filter clean, carb and jets spotless, clutch weights are still like new, de-carbonized the muffler.

I even pulled off my bore, in case it was somthing from that causing the problems. I put in my stock honda engine (d*** quite now!), but same thing, 15mph.

It sputters at 15mph, and seems to misfire mabe? I have a few ideas, timing is off, however, I dont know how timing can go off, as it only fires when that magnetic thingy on the flywheel goes round.
Could be the coil? Spark seems normal, but mabe it's worn?
Possiably the Reed Valve? or CDI?

Those are the only things left I havent done. Spent 6 hrs on the darn thing in the heat yesterday.

Thanks All!

Ok, swapped out with 6 other CDI box's. 2 spree box's, 3 elite box's and a Chinese Road Runner Scoot box.

Tried 3 different coils.

Going to I guess order a new Reed Valve, see if that will do it. Hey, will spree valve fit on a elite? I got 5 more parts sprees available.
