Muffler

Post by matt »

I have a 86 spree(84 carb) thats seems to run great the muffler seems to be pluged and i dont know how to clean it out. By the way i wont be driving this on the road. it runs up to about 23 mph it starts to pull the studs out and leaking out smoke right from the motor. Also any tips on making it run cooler :?: .Thanks for your time.

he is talking about the fan cover on the engine. (again look at avator, lol)

if you're overheating you might be running too lean, check ur carb.

i would try to blow it out with compressed air. if that dont work u can cut it open, clean, and weld back together.

Your scoot sounds like (yet another) basket case. Where to start...

You should have a 2-pc fan shroud and a plastic fan on the side of the engine. If not, get them. drichardson@core.com for cheap used parts. If you don't know what it's supposed to look like, download the service manual. Your engine will overheat without it.

If the studs are pulling out you need to replace the threads with a new thread insert. Probably 4 of them.

Now would be a good time to clean out your cylinder exhaust port, and look at the condition of the bore and rings. Same for the head.

Dump out the 2-cycle oil from tank and lines, and replace it with injector oil; I'll bet you're running premix. It makes a mess of Spree.

Go to tech docs for cleaning the exhaust.

I am not running premix. and i found the fan cover and it is running much cooler. but now i discovered another problem. with the exhaust on tight it will blow the air cleaner of the carb.but if the exhaust it bolted on loose it will vibrate the bolt loose and the air cleaner stays on. I think my muffer is almost pluged. Not really sure what this means. I have decarbonized the motor and cleaned the carb. but not sure how to unplug the muffler. I have a mig. Should i cut it open and clean it than reweld it?

I have a air compressor and letting a little air through is fine but if i send a blast of air through it, it acts pluged and nothing comes through. Is that normal? :?:

3 options. Haven't tried any of them. I have sawn them apart; it's a pain to reassemble them.

If you have a torch, fire it up and blast it into the exhaust inlet. When it starts burning, switch to oxygen only, which will keep it burning.

Throw it into a fire for 20 minutes.

Fill with gas, dump, ignite.
