New Project

Post by Mystic »

My ucle called me up today and asked me to come over. He traded for some junk he wanted me to come take a look at that I may be interested in :D The xr80r was complete except for the engine hanger plate and an exhaust luckily I have a pipe and a hanger plate :D the other is some kind of dune buggy someone made out of a small honda 4 wheeler I am thinking a 90cc or 125 not quite for sure both have seen better days. All the plastics were in pretty good shape for the xr80 even had the key so i figure I will get it running and back together first. it wasnt rolling when i got it so i took the front wheel off and hte brake pads had rusted to the hub and came off so scraped all that out and got it in nuetral :D didnt get the head off before it got dark but hopefully the cylinder and piston are in good shape, will know tomorrow. If they are this thing will be a breeze to fix :D

hahha for real swimmingfree, at least this one doesnt have goat s*** in the intake :D I have to take the head of the cm400 I am fooling with to get the goat crap that fell in there OUT hahhahahah totally serious. This is a fine example of GOOD karma, if you do good things good things happen. Contrary to popular belief among some of the people on this forum I am not such a bad person if I was why would people just give me bikes?? its because I try to help people and do righteous deeds every day. I treat everyone like family and do the best I can in all things. I will have this puppy spit shined, running like a top, and flip it for a profit....the good ole american dream :P

Have a look at the teeth for wear, it looks like a sharks fin due to the way they wear.

You wont want the chain to skip.

I had it happen on a old bike I had and it wasnt good :(

yea I will replace whatever is worn, can't sell something to anyone and it not be right. If i was going to keep it I wouldnt worry too much about it as long as I can get it to run. It doesnt really belong to me anyway if i can fix it kewl if not it becomes mine :P tore into it this evening and it took me forever to get the camchain off i had to take a wrench and loosen the bolts that hold the sprocket to the shaft being careful not to drop them in the case and pull the camshaft out then the sprocket with the bolts still in it, it was locked up tight as a drum no movement of the camchain or the flywheel. As I suspected since the exhaust had been left off water had leaked down and the exhaust valve was open so water sat on the piston off and on for a year and rusted up bad. let it sit with oil for a bit then tapped on it with the rubber end of a hammer and another hammer to hit it with but it still took a while. the piston and cylinder is in better shape than I expected and the rings appear to be good. gotta hone the cylinder to get all the rust off and brush the piston, combustion chamber, and valves with a wire brush on the bench grinder. make a base gasket of course. maybe i can get it all done tomorrow and back together. so far so good

Yea that bore looks pitted by the rust

How much can you hone it out?

Bigger bore = power = :naughty:

Good work so far :thumbwink:

dont know if its pitted or not, what you see in the picture is the rust buildup I gotta go borrow a honer today and see what I can do to it. I am going to try and reuse the piston and rings so i will hone it just enough to make it smooth again.

You know about doing the criss-cross hone pattern?

It helps the new rings bed in properly

gaskets made, carb cleaned, then i took the valves out to brush them and what ya know the ex valve was bent and the intake was hard as * to get out and wouldnt go back in sooo took the ones out of the xr100 ex valve was bent there too. hmmm searched ebay aprrox 50 bucks to * with that, crossreferenced bingo 86 cmx250 took me bout an hour to get the motor off and the head etc etc valves in excellent shape and the cylinders and pistons were great so glad to know i have a good rebel motor :D laped the valves in with clover compound just waiting for someone to set the clips when i push the springs down. hopefully i can get it back together and running tomorrow :D
