Did a short scooter ride......................

Post by Bear45-70 »

Did a short scooter ride yesterday afternoon. About 6 miles and one bolt fell out of the carb mount. The noise it made said intake and with the plastics off it was obvious what was wrong. BUT no spare screw long enough (there are two now). Called the youngest daughter and she grabbed my truck and trailer and came and picked me up. The scooter was running 20 minutes later (most of the time reinstalling plastic) and then I did a 70 mile ride. Perfect afternoon for it.

I put over 5,000 miles on that scooter last year. One bolt falling out is not a disaster and it only delayed the ride less than an hour. I can live with that.

I ride that thing almost daily except when it rains. Many trips to Seattle to the VA on that Aero 80 plus just cruisin' either with local guys or trailering over to Tacoma and ride with Marty and Mousewheels.

Well done. You think a small pair of vise grips would have gotten you back home ?
I think the spigot-mount carbs reduce the chance of such an occurance. You will remember (maybe) my Elite 80 having the same crap happening from harmonics backing out the studs, nuts, all of it until I Loctite everything.

It was the inside bolt and there is no way on the Aero 80 with it's weird plumping for the bystarter to get vise grips in there.
