Greetings:

Plus the Grom is hard to get, at least it was around here. Even if the performance is close, the Grom looks like the toy it sort of is. The Wolf is small in displacement, but it is officially a Motorcycle. By the way, Tennessee troopers have an arrest warrant for whoever defiled their skyline with a bike on the sidewalk...

The Wolf is a great looking bike... congrats and please keep us posted on how she's treating you.

After your NS's roadrace ergos do you find the Wolf's pegs a bit too far forward?

Greetings:

I just noticed that the Old School thinking that went into the Wolf extends to include a kickstarter! Glory be!!

My opinion is yes, but only slightly...more importantly: the lack of a pivot on the pegs.
I have ridden Hondas with folding pegs for 40+ years, and I find it somewhat
disturbing that the Sym engineers would eliminate a design based on safety
in order to trim production costs.
The cafe'-style seat on my Wolf is adequate for most...but my butt hurts after 20-30 minutes.
There is an optional seat choice, more of a "classic" design, that is said to provide better comfort.
I will probably keep the cafe' seat and take a rest often.
Most important difference I have found between the Wolf and NS50F is the handlebars.
My arms have absolutely no fatigue now, whereas on the NS, I was unable to stay on more than a few minutes.
without suffering "arm-pump"... :thumbwink:

With only 1,700 miles on the clock, the clutch cable suffered damage.
Upon closer examination, the clutch lever and bolt have also suffered un-due wear.
Warranty claim submitted today to the dealer of purchase.
This is the first issue with the Wolf and surprises me with such damage at so few miles.
I have a 1974 Honda XL100 that is still sporting it's original cables throughout. (granted, mileage is similar)
My '84 Aero125 still with original cables, and 7,000 miles, nearly.
I am hopeful that Sym agrees that the parts are covered by warranty... :urban:

Sorry to hear, I too have a bike 40 years old with the original cables. It may have been from the perch or handle not lining up proper. But from my experience with bikes lately they don't make them like they use to. At least it left you with 2 strands!
Sym is Taiwanese?

Clutch cable failure and subsequent claim was on June 10...
Replacement cable, lever and bolt arrived today.
Dealer was fully co-operational, and expedited the parts to me asap... :thumbwink:
Installation is complete, and the fun begins all over again... :urban:

A failure this early is never a good sign.

ain't that the truth...
The pivot bolt that was sent lacked having the proper "nub" on top which fits a hole in the rubber cover.
I could have predicted that....
Even the tolerance between lever & bolt is excessive, and the slop in the lever is adequately annoying.... :bowrofl:
I promise to lubricate amply every day for the next 60 days...then well see how it looks... :thumbwink:
The original cable housing is like new, so I may have a custom cable made for that instant back-up plan.... :naughty:
Going to the garage...to make-up for lost time... :urban:

Log entry : Stardate 7/06/2014
.....Filled fuel tank with Exxon 93 Octane @ 00.0 miles
Rode 2.8 miles...stopped @ red light.
Took off and shifted into 2nd gear, then had a series of coughs, hiccups, and misfires through 3rd gear.
Throttle manipulation maintained a running engine until it finally "passed" the unknown cause.
The following 40+ miles were flawless...I expect it was water passing.
The tank was by no means drained to empty when it was filled...probably had 1/4 tank...
I should drain the bowl...check for water, maybe look inside for debris... :urban:
Responsible ownership tactics employed... :naughty:

Greetings:

Heads would roll at the Minato-ku Honda headquarters if a consumer purchased a bike that suffered such a failure, but remember Honda had its share of failures in the beginning, too. So many race DNFs were blamed on "throttle cable failure", even if they were due to something far worse.
I'm disappointed hearing about this substantial bit of under-engineering. Obviously the pivot bushing and cable need to be a lot bigger and stronger and more precisely fitted.

I was seriously considering a SYM, but this fundamental failure in a key part - if it fails, you're walking home - makes me appreciate that Honda and the other Big Four never stop improving. Hopefully a re-engineered assembly is in the pipeline. If they just give you a replacement of the same parts, you can anticipate it to fail in about the same time. Lemon Laws exist for this exact reason.
