Greetings:

Cool, now bolt 'er up!
I see it also controls pesky lawn weeds. :)

Just stay upwind and maybe wear a gas mask, if it's H2SO4. Even if it was HCl... Were those grass shots due to brief periods of unconsciousness?

The acid doesn't harm the aluminum?

You can find the answer to that question by looking at the threaded portion at the top of the carb.

Would a less aggressive acid work and not harm the carb?

Acid will always eat the metal, and considering the small openings these carbs have even a little nibbling will probably cause a significant change.

Just buy the can of carb dip from the auto store, nothing is better for cleaning these carbs than a super aggressive can of organic solvents! I had a super-gunked carb, put it in the dip for 3 days, pulled it out and sprayed it down w/ the spray can type cleaner. Absolutely pristine! Just make sure you wear gloves when the can's solvents are involved, and change them regularly too. Some diffused through the my gloves and didn't feel so good.
