Do you have to have your head modified to do this or do you just put the stock head on top of the channeled cylinder?Wheelman-111 wrote:Greetings:
Sorry that was confusing. Absolutely the Contesta kit is designed to re-use your stock head. In my case a channel was cut into it for use of a Corsa-type viton O-Ring. This makes head removal possible without sourcing spare head gaskets, and raises compression ratio for higher output. Premium fuel recommended.

Greetings:
I had my head grooved - actually the scooter's - for the O-ring. Never seen the cylinder done that way.

Unlike the only spree kit that is available, you may just bolt on your original head with no modifications - so long as you use the correct provided head gasket.jk171282jk wrote:Do you have to have your head modified to do this or do you just put the stock head on top of the channeled cylinder?Wheelman-111 wrote:Greetings:

Just thought a gasketless cylinder would be more enjoyable to work on. I heard LSD really grooves your head

Groovin' the Cylinder and Head
Greetings:
Replacing the base gasket with a Viton or Teflon O-ring is a great idea that never occurred to me. If there's enough space down there and the machine tool and skill set exists to carve a groove, it'd sure speed up the gasket-scraping process - AND avoid shreds dropping into the crankcase. Lapping the two surfaces together and using Copper Permatex worked for me, but an O-ring would probably be a more reliable seal.
As for the cylinder/head junction, I guess it's just a lot easier to carve on the head than the cylinder, but as long as the O-ring has a place to live, either would be fine.
Substituting an O-ring for the .02" thick gasket down below effectively lowers the ports, and so increases the static compression ratio two ways, considerably more than just O-ringing the head. Doing either mod, and especially if you do both, watch carefully for piston/head clearance issues. In my case, the Esteemed Scooterwerx machined a new combustion chamber in my stock head, as well as cutting the groove. 'Twas a thing of beauty, like all the machine work he does. I hope he remains available for future Scooter projects.

will these fit on all years of the aero?
Re: AF05E Big Bore List - Aero and 88-93 elite Engines
I think the AFO5E came in 85+ Aeros, not the early ones but I'm not positive.
