I'm sure someone else on this forum could give you the exact MSRP for each year (they're good on here) but I think it was right at $500 back in the day.

If I remember correctly. As a teen begging for one, my parents weren't going to ante up the $1800.

According to Popular Science magazine, from August 1984, page 98, Spree retailed that year for $398.00.

Check http://books.google.com, search terms Honda Spree.

I was saving up money to buy an 85 or 86 (how ever long it took to save the money) before my parents put the kabosh on that idea. They were $495 in 1985 or 1986, thats what the dealer price tag was. I know because I wanted one so bad, and must have thought about it about 10 times a day! Maybe the 86 went up a little($30?), but it was still $500 in my 13 year old mind.

Wow. So why can't we get a Japanese scooter or motorcycle for less than $900 (or even $2000 for that matter) these days?

Becasue many things have increased in cost faster than inflation, cost of raw materials, cost of shipping, labor, insurance, taxes, etc, etc, etc, plus they have figured out people are willing to pay the extra price.

That's OK they did buy me a brand new 1986 350X. Kinda makes up for not getting a Spree. And that was $1800 back then.

Aero 50 was $848. I remember this because they had one on the Price is Right and I guessed it right. Sprees were $398.

I actually worked at a Honda dealer back then (LeBard and Underwood). I remember buying a brand new 1982 Honda MB5 (in early 1983) off the billboard ads before that though. It was $399. The ad read: "10,500 (RPM) for $399".

The bike that really had me smitten was the unbelievably perfect RZ350 brand new for just $2,399.
