Greetings:

PR axt-ed about "best combustion for cash".
50mm big bores
Many will differ, but my own luck with the pricey Polini Corsa has made me a believer. Despite the lower 72cc displacement of the 47mm slug, the Corsa runs rings around the two 51mm and one 50mm kit I've tried. VT Cycles' Char-Mo 50 is about half the price, and a lot less sensitive to tuning errors than the 51s, but doesn't run as strong unless someone with a lot more knowledge than I have can optimize the porting. Polini's craftsmen have already done this, hence the big price hit. If you get the Corsa, the other stuff isn't as important.
clutch I happen to use a 2-shoe adjustable, and like it very well. With the correct grab springs, there's not that much wrong with the stocker.
vari's DayWot's $40 Keli worked just fine - no case shaving necessary.
wieghts Italians make more durable ones than most other origins. Size matters, but you can't optimize until you settle all the other stuff first.
carbs Treatland has any size of OKO you want for $69. You'll need the CT manifold at least, another $40-ish.
tires Pirelli SL-26 from MotorcycleSuperstore.com for about $22. 90/90s avoid fit issues. Consider Met 2.15 rims.
EXHAUST'S PG Long works better than most for about $150 from VT.

BurntToast has suggested his Corsa got to 60 with 9:1 gears, but that's stretching the Corsa to its rev limit. 8.44 if you axt me. I'm using 7.97s now, and about to switch to 7.5s. Mine's seen 69.9 at about 10.5K RPM.

YMMV

50 mm bores are rubish unless you mill the head to raise comp
Go with the 72cc.... or bigger

Who on earth did you hear that nonsense from? :jack:

I have a 50 mm bore that I did not "mill the head" and it performs just fine.

I took the $175 dollars I saved and bought a mini stroker and a OKO carb.

I run circles around all my friends 72cc polini's

Not true at all. the 50mm bores have high compression already,if not to much if using pump gas. thats why guys are seizing or blowing up
Nothing like getting stroked!

.I have one- I liked corsa better by far~ did mini stroke on both. Maybe my cylinder was diffrent but I did not like the 50mm.

Head had a lot of open area compared to the corsa.

You can't. Compare the 50mm head to a corsa head. 2 different size cylinders and 2 different port heights and where they make power.

That is all talking, cause don't know how things work.
It more than that , it about who built and tuning the motor..

I have an After market vari and is quite nice running 8.5 rollers, is that good or would going up to 9, or even 10gram rollers improve top speed?

If your engine has the torque to pull them, it will increase the top speed.

Greetings:

I agree with EliteGuy50, with this caution:

Think of the variator as a gearbox. First gear is Minimum, Top gear is Maximum. A CVT has an infinite number of ratios, but only between Minimum and Max. At Maximum, the rear wheel RPM is tied directly to engine RPM like a car or bike in 6th gear.

Once you fully engage the clutch, the variator starts off at Minimum (1st gear), and then begins, um... Variating. Heavier rollers require less RPM to move the drive face against the contra-pressure of the center spring, and so the "shift" to maximum occurs sooner. However heavier rollers won't change the math value of Maximum, and so cannot increase top speed beyond the mathematical relationship described. (unless there's a horrible mismatch in the variator to begin with.)

In fact, too-heavy rollers can drop the engine below its best power too soon and cause a slow and painful climb to a LOWER top speed. Lots of cars and bikes with overdrive transmissions achieve their best speeds in 5th, not 6th. Same goes for an overloaded variator without sufficient power.

If we could be sure of the RPM where an engine makes its highest Torque, a tach would assist in determining the optimal load.

Torque does not make top speed. HORSEPOWER does. Torque is what acceleration is all about.

Torque is actual work. Horsepower is just a measurement.
